D&D 4E Finally, a playtest reporting there are good things from 4e in Next!!

I fully agree with you there, but you did say that normal people can't be heroes... That is the only part in your argument I can find fault with, and the only reason I really mentioned human history. :)

D&D 4E Finally, a playtest reporting there are good things from 4e in Next!!

See, now, the funny thing is, just about every hero in actual human history was in fact, a normal person without magical whiz-bang super-mario special powers. What really separates anyone from the act of being a hero is going out there and doing it. Normal People can be heroes too! While I...

D&D 4E Finally, a playtest reporting there are good things from 4e in Next!!

Mike Shea on Critical Hits: We don't know what the DM actually said to them going in to the adventures... he may have warned them, or not. I fully agree that preparing new players of any game is absolutely necessary, regardless of which edition they are coming from. It seems to me Mr. Shea...

    D&D 5E (2014) No longer interested in 5e now

I resent that remark, sir... Just because I like to play the magical elf, from Happy Land, who lives in a gumdrop house on Lolly Pop Lane... does not mean I play a dumb old gumdrop elf! :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Another Critical Hits 5E Report

If the intended design as listed on the 5e info page is to unify the feel of play to include all prior versions of D&D with their modular framework. And this first taste is just the pure baseline--ie, not even scaled up to BECMI level... Having modules that scale the progression of the game...

    D&D 5E (2014) Another Critical Hits 5E Report

For some, the idea that an Ogre is no longer a pushover for low-level play is a very good thing, and I see nothing wrong with a core mechanic that supports that style of play at its most basic level. WoTC already has an example of being able to support high powered play on display and in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Another Critical Hits 5E Report

I'm a 4e player... and I love playing 4e. I took no offense to the statement made by the blogger and I do not think it was meant as an attack on 4e players or the edition. I was a bit confused by the level of offense it seemed to instill in my fellow 4e players in this thread. It seemed to me...

What doesn't belong in the "core"

Huh? Fighter without sword-chucks is a deal-breaker for me... :D

    I like D&D

If everything is supposed to be modular, then you won't have to work with the raw materials to build up new modules from the ground up, unless you want/feel compelled to (and the fact that you CAN engineer your own modules is a strength in my opinion, and I think WoTC should lay down...

    Far Realms madness

For the weird geometry, maybe you could make it difficult terrain while moving in a continuous line, but changing direction is treated like normal terrain. Characters would be moving in funky patterns within the aura. Might be fun. :)

My Game is THIRTY YEARS OLD!

My guess is that his players are from a nice quiet rural community, a real close-knit bunch. And those durned chains in the basement allow just enough movement for the DM to cast his dice! :)

Gender modifiers: the other side of the coin

Red Sonja is a Barbarian, not just a Fighter. She shouldn't be in "proper armour" at all. I imagine you would crawl away worse for your effort if you tried to strap Conan into proper armour too... But I completely agree that the chainmail bikini is over the top, down the table leg, and...

    A new spin on rituals

I mostly play controllers when I do play. I rarely use more than 3 or 4 surges before an extended rest. The defenders and strikers burn through surges much faster than I do. I did get beat up on once, mainly because I was trying something new that kept me way too close to the fight and I used...

    A new spin on rituals

I like this idea! You could also make the surge drain successive: 1st ritual beyond costs 1 surge, 2nd ritual beyond costs 2 surges (3 total), 3rd ritual beyond costs another 3 surges (6 total), etc. Some rituals should still require gathering components, materials, etc. Like Enchant Magic...

Elementary Essentials: eliminating level bonuses & stacking.

I'm pretty sure those extra hit points are per level of the monster... so more like 90-120 more hit points in that case. edit: nm... Kzach put it all in perspective again... :D

    Arcanist playtest

Gah, there are really a whole ton of holes that can creep up... the wording has to be just right... so... more simply, just change "end of its turn" to "after the first action of its turn" Is this better? Flaming Sphere: Any creature adjacent to the sphere after the first action of its...

    Arcanist playtest

Wow, yeah. It defintely is even more broken that way. Any creature adjacent to the sphere must make a move action at the begining of their turn or take 1d4+Intelligence fire damage. how about that? Move or suffer.

    Arcanist playtest

They way you stated your version is far superior to mine. I like it!

    Arcanist playtest

Its fine if a creature moves out of the zone and then makes an attack. No damage taken for them and they still got to make an attack, but the spell still did its job. It controlled the enemies movement. If the creature attacks first and then moves out, they get punished for sticking around too...
