Very cool!
I was never into Alternity, but almost got into it just for Dark Matter -- so this will all be brand new to me.
-- September too: just in time for my birthdayzes
I liked the premise and details about handling crime scenes -- but didn't like the plethora of new skills they used to implement them. Characters just wouldn't have enough skill points to ever make use of these things.
With some house-ruling you could fix that, but I'm waiting to see if any...
Have to say, between Midnight, Thieve's World, Black Company, Game of Thrones, Conan, and Iron Heroes, I think I'm pretty well supplied on low magic d20 settings.
That said, I'm always cool with seeing new things.
People moving -- including myself.
My last group was a bunch of people from grad school, and now everyone's getting to the point where they're fisnished and going to have to go all over the place to their new jobs.
My wife and I have also moved a few times in the last couple years, and may...
There's also Timeline: Roaring 20's. It's nicely done, gives some history, and has a good little equipment list. I'd like to see more of that really (since I'd like to do TotK too).
For pulp-flavored Cthulhu, Adamant's got a bunch of small books that look good.
And Adventure! d20 has a fun...
Psihammer could use some editing, but I like the approach to psionics -- very comic book-y or even Rifts-y (noun + y makes anything an adjective).
You've got stuff like Forcers, Sixsensers, Shifters, and so on. You pick up powers via feats -- which are pretty much better than any other feat in...
I'm going to add more to my list!
The following are some items that look good, but I didn't feel comfortable recommending because I haven't gotten a chance to playtest them yet:
Elements of Magic: Mythic Earth
Hot Pursuit
Psihammer
Okay, none of my own books and, in order to one-up Psion (since he's already got some books on my list), I'll try to include links (to ENWorld stores if possible!). List in no particular order.
d20 Modern Menace Manual
Last Rights of the Black Guard
Sidewinder: Recoiled
Blood and Fists...
One additional plus for SC 2.0, I think, is that when 10,000 Bullets comes out it should be easier to run more generic modern campaigns, since it sounds like that campaign is designed around Sin City style characters and classes.
Same for me. I think I had to wait for the AD&D Player's Handbook so we made up our own progressions past 3rd level -- and at 12 and 13 we weren't too big on game balance when making up our own rules...
Urban Arcana probably would have benefited from a nice little mini-campaign, like maybe a 128 pg book, that really focused on what the setting was about and what sorts of stories you could tell in it.
While it's great WotC and the Game Mechanics put out some modules via web-support or PDF, I...
Just for the sake of argument, if you submitted that to Crafty and they published a short PDF of just their dramatic conflict rules translated into d20 Modern, then they'd have at least one automatic sale -- and, judging from the success of Hot Pursuit, maybe a few more...
:D
It seemed to me that the various chase and dramatic conflict sub-systems could be ported over to d20 Modern without too much difficulty and that'd be handy.
Nice to see that Crafty's going right into PDF support. I look forward to seeing what else is coming up from them and 3rd party pubs.
