    D&D 4E 1/2 Orcs in 4E (Rich Baker scoop)

I agree with Rich Baker on this. In my games it's typically been something you just glossed over -- and, personally, I'm not sure saying mom "preferred the half-orc equipment" is a big improvement over the rape back-story. Frankly, I'm not sure why they just don't delete the "half-" part and...

The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

Commenting on it now: You could translate that to a bigger fight scene by dicing out the entire combat, then having some point where the players could either choose (or spend) action points/story points to retcon that they didn't actually fight it out, but instead accepted being captured. The...

The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

Jonathan Tweet actually tried to address this once on his website and it struck me as at least a good place to start: There is no Try I'll also copy and paste the whole thing below so people can discuss if they wish (if I'm over-stepping, I'm sorry. But I figure it was intended to be shared)...

The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

Personally I like this solution -- skills as feats (of a sort). What the skill does then is give you a range of special abilities -- picking locks, hacking computers, and so on. Special abilities are cool and fun to gain -- much more fun than simply incrementing some numbers. There would...

12 to Midnight Launches Midnight Charity Project 2007

Second World Simulations would love to jump in with what little we've got. For the month I'll donate 100% of the profit for sales of all my books via RPGNow and its various affiliates to the Midnight Charity. You can find my books here at the ENWorld Store.

    Dreamblade Minis for D&D

Yah -- the scaling thing seems sort of bone-headed. Especially since the scale would also work in d20 Modern and even be appropriate for non-d20 games. In fact, a d20 modern Dreamblade setting would be pretty cool as a web enhancement.

    "Poaching" OGC

Yah -- that's been unfortunate. Where we have seen good re-use is when a big d20 Publisher like Green Ronin (or AEG with Spycraft) gets out there and creates a friendly atmosphere for smaller publisher support of one of their main lines. Hopefully we'll see some more of that with Modern20!

How do you improve the OGL?

I don't think that's true. Metacreator, Klooge, Fantasy Grounds, and Hero Lab all work with the OGL by operating off a base generic engine that can be used to implement a variety of game systems. They then load data files for each particular game system. In all cases these data files are in...

How do you improve the OGL?

I think releasing the same material in the same book under more than one Open License is tricky. For instance, you can't place additional restrictions on content you're using under the OGL, so a new open license couldn't somehow close off open content. And I think that you couldn't reduce...

How do you improve the OGL?

I agree that software would be the major area where a new version of the OGL could be most beneficial. Still, PCGEN, Campaign Suite, DM Genie, NPC Designer, DM's Familiar, Metacreator, Fantasy Grounds, Klooge, RPGXplorer, and Hero Lab have all managed to release software based on OGL material...

How do you improve the OGL?

Actually, I think the D20-L was for the d20 Trademark License. Regardless, I suspect it'd be worthwhile to merge these two boards together. I don't think they'll have so many active threads at once that we'll need two boards and there could just be tags setup to indicate if it's non-WotC OGL...

How do you improve the OGL?

I don't think you can make any changes to the OGL without making the incredible volumes of material released under the current OGL no longer usable with your new, improved OGL -- which strikes me as a losing proposition unless your new OGL was a tremendous improvement.

    Thanks for Hosting!

Yah -- this is really great! And having a permanent resource listing all the discussion should be very useful for those making a serious effort to understand the licenses.

That'd be a perfect solution for me. To make this more than a "me too" post I will also make silly comments on why head-snatching assassins is a sticking point for me. **** If proper assassination (as opposed to ineffectual, kill you for one day and cause one level loss) requires...

    Defenses confirmed!!!!!!

I think its better if the core rules focus on the mainstream, most common cases, instead of sacrificing simplicity so that you can achieve what you want in fringe cases. Even for NPCs, the vast majority of my guys that care about athletics will be town guardsmen or enemy soldiers/thugs with a...

    Rezzing

I think any solution might have to be largely a fluff fix. I think one of the main reasons for including raise dead is to make the game more fun and playable, so it's a gameplay device -- but the problems it creates are mainly to the fluff: things like the kind of story the DM wants to tell...

    Rezzing

Essentially what Treebore said. In Mongoose's The Drow Wars, the player characters are special -- they're Starborn. This is a template that is added to all the players and provides a bonus that varies based on the constellation under which you're born. They also get signature magic items that...
