Am I the only 3.0 grognard left?

My groups still plays 3.0. I really didn't see enough useful changes to merit a switch, and when I told the other's in my group that 3.5 was comming out the immediate general consensous was a rolling of the eyes followed by "I'm not buying that." We haven't had any problems with 3.0. I may...

Underpowered Guns in d20 Modern (rant, long)

I've seen some d20 rules that treat firearm attacks against archaic armor as ranged touch attacks. This would go towards the idea that firearms made plate armor impractical on the battlefield. D.

    Reviews Not Influecing Buying?

As the price of RPG books continues to increase I consult reviews now more than ever. But, I don't really read reviews to see what that review author thought of the book, instead I use the reviews to try to get a fuller and more complete understanding of what I will be buying with my $35 or...

How many books do you own?

I've got about 45 books. I didn't realize I had that many until I counted. I really don't buy a lot, but I've "not been buying a lot" for about 4 years now, so the number of books I have is starting to add up! So, basically, I average about a book a month.

    Players with poor vision

If he can make out colors Alea Tools make colored, round, magnetic markers to go under miniatures. If he tunnel vision allows these might make it easier to distinguish which minis are which. I haven't used these but they look interesting. Also, I work with a woman who is legally blind. She...

    Which battlemat to get?

My group also uses the Chessex wet erase battlemat that's 36"x48" and it works well. One advantage to this is that the 8.5" x 11" engineering paper with 1/4" squares has almost exactly the same number of squares as the battlemat (it may be off by one or two rows/columns) so you know that if you...

    Miniatures for your Game

What I would like to see would be modern day minis for use in games like Spycraft or normal D20 Modern games (no non-human races).

Tips Needed: Gaming in a Large Group (8+ PCs)

I've DM'ed a group as big as 9 PC's before. Many of the previous ideas are good, especially the initiative card. My group (currently 6 PC's) uses them and it really speeds things up. Just don't put anything but offensive abilities on the card, because if you put Hit Points or saves you'll...

Do you allow resurrection-type magic in your campaign?

I said "Yes, just like the PHB" but I don't really like it as a DM. I'd like to change them or remove them entirely as I don't like the world implications (e.g. the king got assassinated? just raise 'em), but I think doing so would really hurt the players. They play their characters to have...

    Dms, dont you wish

I'll have to go with liking all the rules also. Since we've started playing 3rd Edition my group has had many less "interpretation" type arguments. Almost all questions that have come up could be resolved with a look in the PHB or DMG. These leads to more actual game play time, then taking...

    Quick: What was the last...

    1) Spider-Man 2 2) The Gunslinger by Stephen King (not counting all the d20 books I read part of as the mood strikes me) 3) A 70's/80's Funk collection a friend at work gave me to listen to.

Who do you play with, and why?

When I started playing (about 12 years ago) I joined a group that a friend played in. I didn't know anyone in the group other then the mutual friend. But we all got along well and had a similar playing style so things worked out. The core of the group is still together but we've added a few...

    Trade in value for gems?

I keep it simple in my campaign. A 1000gp gem will get the seller 1000gp.

Lets go exploring! A poll about adventures

I voted for mini-campaigns. To me, these are easier to integrate into a full campaign. The normal sized modules that take a character up a couple of levels are more difficult to link together, but a couple of mini-campaigns only require a few bridges to be worked out. Another type of module...

Rate of Advancement and how often people play

From my experience this statement is very true. One of my group's DM's has been going by the book for giving experience based upon CR and we get a whole bunch of XP. This is because we are a very min/maxed, high powered group (the DM used 5d6 drop the two lowest for stats) and can handle...

Rate of Advancement and how often people play

The group I play in levels about every 4 sessions, or about 20 to 25 hours of play. This seems to be a good advancement rate for us. Anything slower and we start to feel like the characters is stagnating, anything faster and we don't get used to the character's current abilities. D.

Linking published modules. Which ones have you linked?

For my next campaign I'm considering linking the Sunless Citadel, Vault of Larin Karr and The City of the Spider Queen. To link them together I'm thinking that as they are exploring the Sunless Citadel the PC's will find a note about the Birds of Prey and directing them to Quail Valley. Then...

How do your PC's meet (in campaign)?

I usually let the players decide how their characters know each other. This lets the players do as much or as little background work as they'd like; it's supposed to be a fun game so I have no desire as a DM to force writting assignments onto people that don't want to write!
