Mutants & Masterminds: Question about power stunts and extra's

Do you need to make a successful attack roll first, or is it just a reflex save? If you have to make an attack, it's weak enough that it could be a 1pp/level power b/c it's a very flawed Slick.

    What makes a "bug" cool?

They should be at least as smart as an animal predator. As for their higher functions- they're just too alien to understand. Yeah, different varities w/different specializations. I like complex reproduction/lifecycles- start as a tadpole, change into a humanoid, end as an immobile...

What do YOU look for in a Campaign World

Myconids as a player race? Your setting is already too interesting to appeal to the average D&D player. Interesting settings (Darksun, Planescape, Spelljammer, etc.) never do as well base-line, core-ruled D&D. So you should decide right now if you want to make a setting that is exciting to...

Mutants & Masterminds: Question about power stunts and extra's

Trip? Power bonus= ranks in opposed Str check for trips? A +4 bonus in an uncommon die roll. That could be a feat instead. Wait, I totally missed it. "Reflex save or be prone." Sounds like a legit power to me. Kinda weak since it's already a normal combat maneuver, but this power would be...

What do you miss about AD&D 1e?

They're a perfect union of Tolkien's vision of elves and Keeblers. I'd take a D&D elf any day over a Middle Earth elf; those guys are so stuck up. ;)

What do you miss about AD&D 1e?

Yeah, I miss that too. It drives me crazy when players don't even try to act convincingly and instead say, "I'll roll to bluff." But if you want to play a high charisma character, and you're just an average guy in real life, you need something in the game to represent that. It's hard for me...

How many of you have tried designing youor own game?

I made my own RPG, or at least half of it, a few years ago and had my group playtest it. They all really liked it, but it was a huge headache to design adventures and be fudging w/the rules at the same time. Also I could tell they weren't really trying to break the system to see if it was...

What do you miss about AD&D 1e?

I'd say D&D elves are pretty untolkienesque. They're short and frail, and masters of wizardry, and they consort w/humans on a pretty regular basis. I can't believe I just said untolkienesque.

How do you give out treasure in your campaign?

Do you DM some kind of Prison game? ;) I never have random treasure. All magic stuff is in the posession of important NPCs and Villains. So it's planned as to what the NPCs would need\use and what I want the PCs to find after they loot the bodies. :(

What do you miss about AD&D 1e?

What about the Thief-Acrobat from Unearthed Arcana? Or the Bard (if I remember correctly Fighter then Thief then Druid then Bard?) AD&D had a few anomolous prestige-like classes.

What do you miss about AD&D 1e?

Cursed magic items. In AD&D you didn't just pick up a new sword and give it a few test swings, you made sure never to touch until it was properly identified. Otherwise it might start attacking you or change your gender. Sure there are some cursed items, but they're remnants of a bygone...

    your evolution as a gamer

I started out playing AD&D, and then 2nd Edition. I got pretty sick of D&D and then I played alot of other games; TMNT, Rifts, MERP, GURPS, Champions, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, Vampire, and others. After many many years of refusing to play it, I started to miss all the D&Disms of extreme power...

Help for a Rusty DM Badly in Need of Some Mental WD-40

A)No reason to be subtle w/this one. Introduce some snooty elf NPCs and the players will instantly hate and distrust them. It would be extra cool if the elves never actually did anything themselves, they just manipulated lesser beings into killing each other off. That way they could claim...

    Ever benched a GM?

Similar, but in the game I was in, the NPCs weren't helping us so much as they were beating us to the conclusion and then making fun of us for not doing it right. Fun. Did you bench him? The wierd thing people who are bad GMs can be really awesome players. That's why it's hard to bench 'em...

    Bad House Rules

Yeah. I don't mind some instant kill rules. I played AD&D w/a modified "Good Hits, Bad Misses" table, and that was fine. It made combat a little more interesting and low level monsters slightly threatening. But the whole eye-shooting thing was corny.

    Ever benched a GM?

I'd say, don't let her GM and avoid the inevitable hurt feelings. I don't know why, but some people cannot help themselves w/the uberNPCs. You can give them constructive criticism, but its like telling a crack fiend to just say no. Matt was the same way. I'm also a firm believer in natural...

    Ever benched a GM?

My old group of gamers would rotate GMing every so often to deal w/burn-out, and to allow everyone a chance to run their own thing. It was alright until one of the players, let's call him Matt, decided to run a homebrewed super hero game. Great! Super! We made characters and were ready to...
