The Case of the Martian Ambassador

^A note on the SG1 market: from what I've been able to determine, they're a small press, and don't have the license for North America. That said, it's probably still a good opportunity, it just won't be as big or pay as well as, say, a WotC novel. By the way, for any who haven't seen it...

The Case of the Martian Ambassador

Yeah, it's part of a series. I only have two stories published at pro word rates, and they both star Professor Thompson Tang Gao -- I'm a series hack already  The first story is in Amazing Heroes, the sequel is the one at Would That It Were, and a later tale appears in All-Star...

    Comic recommendations?

^It's a pretty good time for mainstream comics, content-wise. The current Lee/Azzarello Superman is pretty cool, and I even like Chuck Austin's Action Comics -- Superman/Batman is also a very fun read. Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men is a solid read, though I personally...

Devil's Due Comics (G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: Reloaded and many others)

I've never been a G.I Joe fan, but I read the Cobra Reborn story and really liked it. I'll probably check out the Reload next. I haven't read anything else of theirs, so I can't really say, but they seem like a smart, quality publisher. Most of their titles are probably safe bets.

The Case of the Martian Ambassador

A short story in the old pulp mold. Would That It Were foolishly paid me 5 cents a word for it, but you can read it for free: “The Martian Ambassador is dead,” Varantus said. His gold-flecked Venusian eyes closed and his already tiny mouth became a sad, thin line. “How is that...

New to the Hyborian Age: Where to start?

Check out Kings of the Night, too. Lots o' Conan info, plus an article about the influences Lovecraft had on Howard (and vice-versa).

Magic: The Gathering Novel Open Call

^Thanks for the info. Incidentally, can anyone provide a link to this thread or another discussing the open call? I've been poking around, but can't seem to find anything.

    recommend me some manga

I think "Fruits Basket" is very well done and is school safe. It's a shojo, so girls might dig it more than boys, but there are plenty of male protagonists and martial arts battles.

Magic: The Gathering Novel Open Call

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/magic/mtgopencall2004 Any interest in this one? I don't know much about Magic, so I'm not sure I'm qualified to submit a proposal. I'll do a little research and see.

    Ever benched a GM?

We've never "benched" one per say. One fellow's DMing was so awful we never associated with him again, though :)

Campaign World Submissions - Who Entered?

I entered, but can't really post my 1-pagers since I have since developed them and sold them as stories (which you can read here, here, here, and here). Just because WotC doesn't go for it doesn't mean no one else will (just remember to remove any elements owned by WotC before submitting...

[Attn: Writers who wanna write for Eberron] Plot workshopping?

Hot, dry wind blew dust off the Talenta Plains, and in through the cracked door of the House of Healing. Great, evocative beginning. The only thing missing here is a strong POV character. We get one in a few short paragraphs, but I think this would have been stronger if presented from...

[Attn: Writers who wanna write for Eberron] Plot workshopping?

Well, here's my ten-page sample. I may change things around and develop the first part of this into a short story if it's rejected, so any criticism is appreciated :) The Dragon Between, Chapter One: The Burden of Old Scars (10 page sample) The poison would work its way out of his...

[Attn: Writers who wanna write for Eberron] Plot workshopping?

takyris: Good strong prose, lots of humor, and characters you grasp immediately. You accomplish an awful lot in only a few words. I'll be surprised if you don't at least land a different writing assignment out of this :)

[Attn: Writers who wanna write for Eberron] Plot workshopping?

You can always submit a 10-page writing sample if you're so inclined -- though I would wait a month or two 'til WotC has done all their Open Call reading :)
