    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

This certainly indicates that the length of time matters. In fact, I don’t really see any other point other than the length of the game that would make you write what you wrote. “Those of us who are experienced with TTRPG campaigns” - could you elaborate what you mean here? What exactly do you...

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

So all that matters to you when it comes to defining a campaign is length of time at the table, and nearly two months of real time is not enough to do that? All you described is the way you do things. Why do you have to get nasty with people?

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

That is such a wonderful movie - easily my favorite Ghibli.

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

Is that what we're really discussing here? Whether he was a failure? And if so, failure at precisely what?

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

There's also a entire subject devoted to management which has nothing to do with the products, and everything to do with the personalities, the processes, and culture.

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

But it's not the same. Look, I don't think these things can be compared easily because few people have gone into depth into the management styles of different CEOs - most don't have the access to those people, and CEOs generally aren't interested in rehashing their failures as much as they like...

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

I just think that these should be apples to apples comparisons, as much as that can be done. I mean, General Motors is a 116 year old company that had a bankruptcy 100 years in. Apple had multiple CEOs post Steve Jobs 1980s departure, and he was brought back in 1997.

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

I'm not following anymore...are we talking about particular CEOs or just companies that were once tied to well known CEOs that eventually went bankrupt? These examples don't really seem illustrative of anything having to do with Gary Gygax or TSR.

Critical Role to Run Grimdark Daggerheart Miniseries

I give them a bit of a pass on that because they have to be really comfortable playing this character for years in front of a camera. I mean, even I have a type of PC that I like to play.

Critical Role to Run Grimdark Daggerheart Miniseries

Was that a custom ancestry that they created for that particular stream?

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

It also won't help if they take another two years to come out with the next season.

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

It's been a couple of years since I played the game, but IIRC, you experience the same dissonance in having to switch to Abby's perspective in the game, and I appreciate that the show is forcing the viewer to have to do the same thing. It's why if there's some attrition in viewership, I totally...

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

Yeah, I think it's a different situation than the first season of Game of Thrones and Sean Bean. That show had a pretty large cast with lots of characters to follow. Last of Us has three main characters - one's dead, killed by another who viewers haven't really had a chance to connect with yet...

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

I'm not terribly surprised either, but I also think part of that is a lot of people are bouncing back from the fact that they killed off a main character. Just like the game, the show is taking the same narrative risks.

Critical Role to Run Grimdark Daggerheart Miniseries

Oh, they definitely can be but I’ve yet to see anyone bring that movie’s sensibilities to their anthropomorphic character. The last Daggerheart stream where everyone played some form of cute animal certainly wasn’t. It very much felt like the game was geared towards those kinds of fantasy...

Critical Role to Run Grimdark Daggerheart Miniseries

I’m gonna tune into the new show to see how it goes. Hopefully this one has less frogs, rabbits and turtle characters.

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

I think part of the problem is that it's easy for someone to miss the Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 titles in Seattle, and realize that the timing is going to be important.

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

His story strikes me as a perfect example of “right place, right time”. There’s a tendency to mythologize people who achieve success but there’s plenty of luck that goes into the mix, as well as an ability to recognize an opportunity. It doesn’t mean those people will always be successful -...

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

They’re really using lots of shots from the game. That whole approach to the aquarium brought back memories.

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

I think that makes sense since D&D is the 800 pound gorilla in the space - it's what people want to talk about. However, it's very possible that Daggerheart displaces other games rather than D&D. I suspect that would actually be the case, but there's likely not great metrics to say that for certain.
