Players that just don't *get* the genre

One of the interesting things about LUG's Star Trek RPGs was that they had a different game for each series. So TNG, DS9, and the Original Series all had not only their own books with complete rule sets. They didn't get to Voyager because Wizards bought Last Unicorn and Paramount revoked the...

Players that just don't *get* the genre

The only time this really sticks out in my mind was a pitch I did for LUG's ST:TNG game. I pitched the game to my regular group, and they seemed open to the idea. So, I discussed possibilities with each of them. One guy wanted to be a sergeant who was drafted in Starfleet. Obviously...

How to be an internet stalker?

First, try Google, Facebook, and MySpace. In California, all counties have public law library. This is likely true in most states, but I don't know. That law library is likely to have LexisNexis as one of the online databases available to people. You can use that to search public records and...

    Thor

Interesting bit about Marvel. They could only publish so many comics, so to publish one comic, they usually had to put them in another. Lots of Marvel characters started in magazines they were publishing when monster comics were fashionable. Spider-Man's debut was in the last issue of Amazing...

    What's your experience with Conan?

Well, you know what they say: It takes a village to rase a child, but it takes a viking to raze a village.

    What's your experience with Conan?

So, there's a new Conan movie coming out. It's probably going to be crap. But it's made me think about how many of us have read Conan stories by Robert E. Howard. Like Tolkien, Howard's stories are considered one of the cornerstone of D&D. I don't like Tolkien, but I've been reading a lot of...

    Thor

I've given-up on 3D. I specifically went to see Thor in 2D and I didn't miss anything. Back when 3D was novel, I wanted to see anything that was in 3D, in 3D. But now I find it doesn't add anything.

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

Luke: You told me that wizard's didn't dominate the game! Obi-Wan: Wizards don't dominate the game if you play it as a strategic resource management game. So what I told you was true, from a certain play style. Luke: A certain play style! Obi-Wan: Luke, you're going to find out that a great...

D&D 4E The yet still complete list of official 4E D&D products: now with new format!

Settler's of Catan has more than two expansions: 1. 5-6 player expansion for the basic game. 2. D&D 4E The yet still complete list of official 4E D&D products: now with new format!

I suspect you're not an avid board gammer. People like expansions and variations on board games as much as they like expansions and variations on RPGs. I have both board games so far and plan to get the next two. I've played both of them and enjoy them quite a bit. I suspect I'm not the only...

    The CB is still crappy

Yep. Ditto. House rules are a little bit more important to me. I'd like to be able to type in the name of a custom deity, like in the offline one. I like to add gods to my campaign. Although, I'd really like the ability to select domains for custom deities, something not even the offline CB did...

Mearls' Legends and Lore - poll on delve format for adventures

Ummm, is whether or not an adventure works more a function of the DM rather than the format the module is written in? The players don't see the layout, it's a tool for DM. Also, unless someone plays the conversion, how can you possibly judge it's effectiveness?

    You Can't Take Short Rests

It's called a dragon. You want to motivate players? Have them fight a dragon away from their hoard. The players will bomb the dragon with encounters and dailies and gladly not rest until they find the dragon's treasure.

Mearls' Legends and Lore - poll on delve format for adventures

In the delve format each monster's equipment is listed at the bottom of their statblock. Any powers or abilities granted to them by magic items is factored in. So yes, in 4e monsters do make use of magic items. Listing all the treasure in in one place doesn't mean that the PCs automatically...

Mearls' Legends and Lore - poll on delve format for adventures

I like it. 1) I like having full statblocks for all the monsters in the encounter in one place. Any replacement of the delve format should keep that. Even if the monster is in the MM1, I prefer it because it's all there in one place. I really have used it without the aid of any MM. 2) The...

    Class Compendium: The Warlord (Marshal)

    1) I agree. 2) Marshal's are awesome. If you don't believe me, watch any version of True Grit or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

    You Can't Take Short Rests

Interesting ideas. Some thoughts come to mind: 1) The "encounter" will be easier because focused fire can take one 4e monster of equal level then one 3.x monster of appropriate CR. 2) Because they're fighting fewer monsters at time, they should be able to fight more monsters without resting...
