    Races for an African-style campaign?

Personally, I'd check out Litorians for your lion-man race. The Litorian culture even lines up with your setting. And just take lizard men and modify the stat adjustments (Maybe +2 to STR instead of DEX) and give them the bite ability that those Stormwrack shark-men have and you have your...

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

I'd rather make my cop campaign a bit more Homicide and less Law and Order, but yeah, it's a good idea. I may even steal it...

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

Well, I can't argue that. Given some of the discussion, I don't think I'd want to.

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

See, I agree with the first two paragraphs, but I don't think the third automatically follows. Alignments are guidelines. It's a spectrum. In the campaign in question, the two characters who argued the most about the issue was the LG paladin and the other LG figher. Both firmly within their...

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

I wouldn't call it an expectation at all. more like a guideline. Plenty of personality left to fill in. As for like to like. The Sentry. And Apollo from the Authrority. Both characters were basically created as Superman analogues, but are very different. There's also Hyperion, from Squadron...

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

I do agree. But plenty of other heroes are indestrcutible, are super fast, etc. And they aren't Superman either. What makes Superman Superman is his moral compass and his constant quest to be a standard for others to look up to. It's the same thing as saying Batman is just a guy with pointy...

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

Fair enough. I still think the analogy holds if one remembers the restrictions and neccessities of the game and setting.

Do you use an explicitly stated paladin code?

I agree with this. The player should never be "tricked" into losing their paladin status. The player should know full well that their actions will result in being fallen and if they want to do so based upon character development, then that's all well and good and could make for a good story.

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

Also... I'm pretty sure Whiz didn't have ANY set idea what the paladin was supposed to do. He just wanted to see what would happen if the character was presented with the choice... Probably so he could know what buttons to press for later issues... BASTARD!

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

Jeez... every time I check these boards, there seems to be another paladin morality thread... Before people make too many assumptions, one should check out the paladin's player's thread on this very question. It wasn't a trick to make anyone please the DM, or make a player fall, and it wasn't...

    heh. OH THE PUNNAGE.

    Play-by-post/online play: Experiences?

I should probably post one addendum to our positive PbP experience. It seems that, reading this over, the biggest problem people experience is the peeter-out affect. Keeping people interested over a long term and the like. To be fair, the majority of players in Whizbang's group have been close...

    Play-by-post/online play: Experiences?

Attributes, stats, etc, yes. Dice rolls are done all by the DM. We ust react to whatever info he or she gives us.

    Play-by-post/online play: Experiences?

I'm in Whizbang's group (which is awesome by the way... check out the story hour, especially the next adventure he's finally archving which really sets the tone...) and we've basically hit level three after one year. However, the sheer ammount of character development and role-playing is so high...

What's Wrong with Virtual Tabletop Play?

All good points. And I can totally understand the preference for real-live tabletop games. However, if one doesn't have the option of doing so... For example, we have a large group- around twelve or so. We have one person from Australia. One from Mexico. One from Canada, who works crazy hours...

What's Wrong with Virtual Tabletop Play?

I'll be the devil's advocate here, why not? I haven't been able to table top in a long time due to time restrictions. I'll admit table topping is quicker, and you get a bit more chaotic, free-wheeling flashes of brilliance (and stupidity), but I've been doing a PbP game for about a year now...

heh. We have a list of Tock's songs also, but many of them are.. shall we say... ribald.

    Cigarette?

heh. In an island campaigbn, I actually have a beachbum druid with dreadlocks and a penchant to smoke a special "sea" weed that he cultivates.
