    Review the Reviews

I posted a thread a while ago asking for general coments on my reviews and got a single response. If anyone feels a need to coment or criticize my stuff by all means do so either publicly here or through the email. It helps me improve what I do.

    Chaos Magic - the review.

Given that this tread is already going all over the map... It was not that bad in Athens as a a matter of fact. We know from Aristophanes' comedies that women did go to the theatre in Athens and from pottery we know they did attend the big civic ceremonies. They also supervised the slaves doing...

    Chaos Magic - the review.

Thanks for the comments guys. It is true that I have not playtested Chaos Magic. My intention was to have it, together with Necromancy and Demonology form a backbone of the the magic system in my new campaign. However I got too scared by the potential balance issues, particularily long term -...

    Qs about The Quintessential Fighter.

Or maybe some people like "the filler".

    Chaos Magic - the review.

I will be quite looking forward to your take on alternative magic. I have been tinkering with the alternative magic system for dnd ever since I started DMing some 10 years ago. It is very hard. At any rate thanks for the kind words.

    Chaos Magic - the review.

I have finaly posted it and it is the longest and most detailed review I have yet done of a d20 product. Contrary to my previous history with mongoose products it is somewhat negative. I would be very glad if Sam or Matthew (or anyone else) would like to adress some of the issues I've raised...

Rate the Reviewers (rant as well)

You are probably (at least in part) refering to me and my consistently high reviews of Mongoose stuff. Fact is there is no relationship whatsoever between them and me other then the fact that I genuinly like each of their individual products so far. I have started reviewing stuff before buying...

(Mongoose) EA: Battle Magic - The Eldritch Storm

Well, one thing I am doing is trying to create an integrated magic system that based on the principle of CONSEQUENCES (I love to capitalize that word). For now it is rather sketchy but I guess more E.A. books come out - easier will my job be. I am just reading Chaos Magic. There is some cool...

    Quintessential Rogue

Re: Re: Quintessential Rogue I am *realy* curious to see this. I have been trying to make a class tht would best describe Indiana Jones. Sure I can change some skills but what do I do with the sneak attack ?

What do you think of 'Challenge of Champions' type adventures?

I love them. Sure they are not something I would thrw at the party everyday but given that my campaign is rather heavily RP oriented ocassional brainwrecker does for a great change of pace. IMC Challenge of Champions is something of a yearly event in the imperial capital and PC's sometimes...

(Mongoose) EA: Battle Magic - The Eldritch Storm

Tell me there are consequences like in other Encyclopadedia arcane books. PLEASE tell me there are CONSEQUENCES... :D

    Quintessential Rogue

You slammed me once in the past for saying exactly this. Glad we agree now :D (Sorry, no insult intended, just could not resist...)

    Qs about The Quintessential Fighter.

Superior can mean different to different people. In my oppinion Mongoose are superior to wizards in prose quality (something I find quite important) and in evoking the the sense of traditional fantasy (not just very specific brand of DnD fantasy). Now I personaly find those qualities quite more...

    Best non Role-playing Game

Ah, "Empires in Arms", my unconsumated love... How do you find anyone willing to play the full game of that; more importantly, how do you find 7 people... In this tread I figured what a boardgame freak I am. I have played all games mentioned at least once and own about 70% of them... freaky...

    Mongose: Quintessential Fighter

It is probably bit too late for a wishlist here but one thing that I would *realy* like to see in the wizard book are the suggestions as to how make all magic more unpredictable and dangerous ala Demonology/Necromancy/C.M. ... or to give guidelines as to how to make integrated magic systems...

    Best non Role-playing Game

I am glad to see I am not the only one that has heard of "Republic of Rome" it is a great game by any measure. All you diplomacy fans out there should try it.

poll: What has most influenced your conception of fantasy?

Tolkien is what brought me in. Dune and SoI&F are what "defined" it for me...

[OT... I think] Vancouver, BC groups / stores

Simmilar answer to the most. -Imperial is the best (and has now become easier to get to due to fast Richmond bus). -4th and Arbutus Comic Shop is most convenient (for me at least as I go to UBC). -Big Pete's on Londesdale and 2nd or 3rd in the North Van is often the fastest one to get stuff...

    ENnies 2002 - Making Decisions

What I am curious about is how will the judges be selected. Are they going to be acknowledged industry people, some community luminaries (like Eric) or in-betweens like Piratecat :) ?
