    Morpheus and DnD

A question for all the "theft is theft" people out there: While certanly illegal is theft necessarily immoral ? Also is all theft *equaly* immoral ? Stealing food money from a single mom strikes me as significantly [...] more immoral then stealing contents of a CD from a multi-milion dollar...

Real world myths and legends: Who's Epic Level?

Re: Re: Re: Real world myths and legends: Who's Epic Level? I second the Hercules. Odiseus (why use latin speling when you could use greek :) ) is geek's hero. Always has been. Macho Greeks despised him and comparing somenone to him was by no means a compliment. That said it only goes to show...

Thanks for kind words. I am finishing the Necromancer but sadly will be totaly busy this weekend (I got a conference to attend). I will post it as soon as it is done and then we can work from there.

    ENnies 2002 Judges Selection

I am volunteering as well. I have reviewed a decent number of products here on the page and have been arround since the first boards. As it can be seen from my reviews my particular interest is in the sourcebooks as opposed to the adventures and this seems to be the year of the sourcebook. I...

Too much magic in DnD - Lets fo something about it 2.

First of all, forget my XP musings. They realy are campaing specific and system, if it is good, should work with or without them. However, one of the principal points of the system as I envisage it is elimintation of such DnD-isms as "spells per day", "Mana", spell points etc... Point is if...

    Looking for mythology book suggestions!

Robert Graves' "Greek Myths" and "White Godess" are classics. So are "Irish Myths and Legends" by Lady Gregory, "Mabiognion" is ultimately readable book despite being "primary source" not so much "Niebelungenlied" but it is still worth the effort

And one that truly demonstrates that mathematicians really can not count ;) Kenjib, glad to hear you are a neighbour, Vacnouver is at least as gloomy this time of the year... I do hope we come out with at least a Netbook out of this. There has been a lot of realy good ideas and I am trying to...

Too much magic in DnD - Lets fo something about it 2.

I agree that there should be simmilarities but I also think that they should all have their quirks and idiosyncrasies. Some should emphasise the consequences (Demonologist, Necromancer...) and should therefore get more raw power in the short term others should be more pedestrian. I know that...

Too much magic in DnD - Lets fo something about it 2.

I do not mind Adept or Expert or what have you and those could be totaly legitimate routes into spell-casting. I only believe that people should be having fun on all levels and NPC classes as mich as they serve our purpose in terms of the atmosphere are not necessarily the most fun thing to...

I agree, we have to figure them out... BTW I like the eggs hatched at midnight; I will defiitvely use those. I think we are on the roll

It would be great to have him onboard. But do I sense concensus ? Kenjib, are you interested in working on this stuff ? How about others ? I am currently working on Necromancer which I will soon present as an example of how I think those classes should look like. We can then take him apart and...

Too much magic in DnD - Lets fo something about it 2.

Something like that, except that I am trying hard to make Scholar (a base feeder-class) a viable thing to play in and out of itself (particularily outside combat). Also I see little need for the step two generalist. Somewhere between leves 3 and 6 you should pick your path. That way you get more...

Too much magic in DnD - Lets fo something about it 2.

Sorry about the previous post, that is what I get for not reading the thread in full before responding :D. Point is, this is exactly what I was proposing sometime at the begining of the old thread. It is a huge ammount of work but I think it is ultimately worthwile. If we pool our resources we...

Too much magic in DnD - Lets fo something about it 2.

What you are talking about is EXACTLY what I want to see. I like your ocult magus but believe that even better result can be achieved with treating each separate tradition as a separate (prestige) class with its own spell-list, perks and drawbacks. People who wish to generalize can multiclass...

Too much magic in DnD - lets do something about it !

I do not want to play DnD. As I said many times, I want a d20 low fantasy game. Reason I like d20 as opposed to Pendragon, Gurps or what have you, is that it is realy simple system combat wise it has probably best system of ability aquisition out there (skills and feats) believable and...

Too much magic in DnD - lets do something about it !

No he can't, not with "Grim and Gritty" which is the HP system that should be used in conjuction with the low magic rules. It simulates beautifully the fact that in real life best swordsman in the world will likely be killed if forced to fight multitide of oponents. As for other d20 systems...

Hong, you write thoughtfull posts, most of which I disagree with but thoughtfull nonetheless. I have, however, lost the track of what exactly are you trying to argue. Are you with us on a project to try to make d20 game (or version of DnD) for low-magic campaigns or are you just hanging arround...

Too much magic in DnD - lets do something about it !

I am very happy to see that there are people who share my opinion on the nature of magic in DnD and its possible consequences as to the type of narative to which rules lead the game. One of the reasons why I do not participate much in the discussion is that I am working on the magic system rough...
