    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

Can we not make this yet another thread arguing why Shadowrun could or could not be converted to d20? This is a discussion about the pending release of a game. D20 is a toolchest. Of course (with enough tweaking) it could be used to create a game with the themes and ideals of Shadowrun...

Propose your concepts of weird character classes

With some tweaking that concept might fit someone who practices a defensive martial art. I've been thinking of doing a Hong Konk Action Theatre type homebrew and was considering having two primary 'martial arts' classes ( a defensive and an offensive one). I might just have to integrate that...

    Shadowrun d20?

I absolutely can't wait to see what they've done with the rules. I liked the SR mechanic, but it got to heavy in places and (my) games often became more about the math than the game if I didn't control it. I'm particularly interested in the idea of a new, more friendly and "mobile", system for...

Looking for a really good d20 Combat Tracker

No. I recommend DMF for people who demand not having a learning curve. I personally use DM Genie and find it a much more 'complete solution'. The learning curve seems steep, but once you start using it (in my experience) it's a pretty easy tool to use.

    Shadowrun d20?

Really? I would have thought Palladium would get that vote. As a member of the shadowrun community I know lots of the fans (and authors) actively participate in d20 games and some of those authors, and other professionals involved with the game, have freelanced on d20 projects or worked for d20...

    Tell me about Wikis

I've done some research into this and have tried out several different PHP based wikis on my test server. I love this concept now that I grasp the basic idea better. My favorite so far is ewiki. It doesn't have the huge feature list that others have (although some of that can be added through...

Looking for a really good d20 Combat Tracker

DMF is a solid utility and given your requests it is likely the best fit for your situation. I recently purchased DM Gemie. It has a slightly higher learning curve (depending on whether or not you want to get involved with scripting to automate feats and such that you enter into the utility). I...

    The perils of colocated servers?

Thanks for the replies! :) I've slept on it, and I've come up with a few reasons not to do it. Keeping up with patches/fixes is a good addition to the list. I've also priced colocation with other services and found that should I ever leave this job I wouldn't likely be able to afford setting...

    The perils of colocated servers?

Okay, I'm trying to make a decision and I thought I would come to the experts... or at least I hope some of the experts see this and can offer some insight. I have a small site hosted by a hosting company, but the host isn't willing to run the versions of PHP and MySQL that I need for certain...

    Sell me on D&D Miniatures

I don't think it'll happen either, but I do think a really well done set of modern minis would sell. Even if d20 Modern is a niche product, there are tons of other 'modern' games on the market that the minis would likely be great for (Shadowrun, WoD, Traveler, various GURPS settings, and so...

    Sell me on D&D Miniatures

I'd say that if you "only" want 15 to 20 minis a year, you might be better off going with non-randomized (more expensive but generally better quality) metal minis. There are some amazing metal minis out there. I really do wish I could paint. My reason for saying that? If you are only going to...

    Sell me on D&D Miniatures

If you are going to invest in the minis I have to suggest you go ahead and get a case of a given expansion at a time. You get them at a seriously reduced price per pack when buying by the case and the 'random factor' is seriously decreased by the fact that you are getting so many figures and...

    Tell me about Wikis

Not a lot of talk on this. Since first seeing this thread I've done a bit of research on wikis and think I grasp the concept somewhat better now. I'm thinking of using one for the same purpose as the original poster. I might do another one just to help me organize my homebrew. I've looked at a...

    Sell Me On WoW!

WoW sells itself, in my opinion. It is a solid game with a ton of quests that all feel like someone took the time to actually write them rather than allowing a computer to generate random "kill X of Y" type quests. You can solo through the game with virtually any class (although a few classes...

    Mage the Ascension Question

My primary issue with the game at the time (keeping in mind that I loved the game enough to have the CoX flower tattooed on my arm) was that what you did with magic always felt like it was limited to how well you understand the world around you. Maybe I just missed the boat entirely ... I was...

    Battlestar Galactica 2/25/05 SPOILERS!

I'm not seeing traitor at all, yet. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the new baltar over the the old, but he's more a man caught in the middle. Someone used his creation against his people so he could look like a traitor in their eyes, but he didn't comply with the cylons knowingly ... and the sexy...

How do you stop a DM from starting NEW campaigns all the time?

A lot of posts here assume something is wrong with the DM in question. What if the DM just likes to run low level campaigns? I've run campaigns that are finished at 5th or 10th level. I don't always want to run campaigns that are extremely long or campaigns that start with the same characters as...

    Computers/Laptops at the gaming table?

I, the DM, use a laptop at the table. None of my players do, and I prefer it that way (I like to be able to confirm their die rolls easily by seeing the dice on the table). I keep rules on my laptop (the SRD updated with material from various other sourcebooks, for my eyes only), and as of...

    Dice at the table

I used to be guilty of bringing the whole 'bag', which was one of those plastic square bags that sheets come in for a queen sized bed. I've purchased several 'pound-o-dice' bags off of ebay. :) I DM so I expect myself to need more dice on hand than my players would. I have however scaled down...
