    Goodman Games Open Call

I spend years wishing I were a game designer, the call comes for submissions, and I find myself without any reasonably good ideas. The campaign I'm getting ready to run feels too "out of the book" and none of my little world design projects are anywhere near far enough along in development to...

    Harsh for hire

Not sure if it's appropriate for random non-industry types to post comments, but nice work. I'm bookmarking as I'm thinking of doing a a little micro-press experiment and will need a bit of art for it. It won't likely amount to much more than a vanity project for me, but I'd like to say I did...

What not yet published concept are you hoping for?

*echo echo echo* Racial paragon paths = double plus cool. Bladesinger could easily by a paragon for Swordmage, as I don't really see a need for two melee arcane classes. Dwarven Berserker for Barbarian and so on... I really want to see summoning and shapeshifting classes as I have two...

Default "PoL" Setting - Setting Info Compilation (Now Wikified!)

Looking forward to the wiki. I agree that fan submitted material might be fun to review, but should be cleanly divided. This should be a fun project to contribute to.

Ashburn VA, 4E, Host and DM seeks group.

just a bump, to let folks know this is still a live request.

    Death of the LGS

So a trimmed down version of this would basically be. Pay $5 a week towards future purchases and get a week's worth of gaming at store facilities. Buy a product and each $5 worth of product you purchased (with cash, not with store credit) gets you a week of in store facilities use. That's...

Worldbuilding - One of the joys of GM/DMing?

I'm a world builder. Have been for years. It's probably one of the more attractive elements of gaming for me. Even my modern games are set in alternate realities or near future eras where I can apply a little creativity. Most of the complaints I see against world building seem to be complaints...

    The Fate of D20 Modern

They've mentioned a 4E license that will allow 4E to be used with non fantasy settings. I think that license will likely be as much as we get of a new edition of d20 Moderm. I'm fine with that... I loved the idea of d20 Modern, but didn't like how different it was from D&D. I've got a great...

    Death of the LGS

Excellent stuff in this post. I suggested, in a less specific way, the same thing last time a store owner came in arguing their case against the big stores. You can't compete in retail. You have to compete in service. I'm a gamer feeling the pinch. I'd much rather spend my money in a game...

    PHB II in March?

I see arcane, divine and primal on the cover. Neat that we get a cover this early though for race/class speculation/confirmation. I don't love that some power sources will be covered in more than one PHB. I'd prefer they had put classes in the splats, and kept the power sources 'self contained.'...

    Building Bucklers!

The OP has it about right with no shield bonus. A light shield has to be better than a buckler. I dislike new weapons that require extra rules (the OP's writeup does not which is why I like it) but I guess I'd be okay with buckler's having the ability to provide a shield bonus once per encounter...

How do you feel about miniatures?

I hated metal minis because they cost a ton and they never looked as good as the pictures when I painted them... but I always used counters of some sort. I hate, hate, hate playing in a game with no sort of positional tracking to keep everyone on the same page. I always end up catching the GM...

My heroes: Ryan Dancey and Peter Adkison

The fact that the GSL exists is great, if not held to the standard of the OGL, and I'm happy to have it. I really like 4E. I'll be playing it, but I too am thankful for those pioneers who opened up the industry at a whole new level.

What kind of PC game do you want from 4E?

I voted turned based like ToEE. That game had serious flaws, but it still shined because it used the game rules as written. If they did a really polished line of games like that one with the 4e rules and put it out on all of the major consoles as well as PC... I have to assume it would do well...

Ideas for a smaller than average group?

Yeah, I just feel that running a second character puts way more decisions in the hands of a single player, or even all three if they all run 2, and makes the individual characters less important to them. As a DM in a new system that has a lot of little status effects and whatnot to track, I'm...

Ideas for a smaller than average group?

So I may be losing a player from my game that meets every other week. To accommodate for everyone's schedules we meet in both PA and VA on alternating sessions, so chances of finding new blood that is willing to deal with the odd schedule is unlikely. (note: this is not the same game I am...

Ashburn VA, 4E, Host and DM seeks group.

Hey all... I drive up to PA twice a month to run a game for my hometown friends, but I'm really hoping to get into the new edition much more heavily. I'd love to get 3 or 4 players together for a regular game. We can discuss schedules: I have Friday night, Saturday night or every other...

    Artificer role speculation

I voted Leader. Another controller would be nice, but with hints that Sorcerer will be an arcane controller.. that's a little too much control. Leader would be great. Some striker bleedthrough to be expected.

Default "PoL" Setting - Setting Info Compilation (Now Wikified!)

Agreed. I think PoL means different things to different people. For those of us who think of ourselves as worldbuilders it is an excellent framework that lets us practice our hobby while ensuring a certain amount of compliance with the current and pending official supplements.

    I don't get what you'all are saying

I shared a number of the concerns of the anti-4E crowd, but quickly discovered that a lot of it just doesn't seem to come up in play. It's like a mosaic. When you pick at it you have a lot of little odd shaped colored bits that don't fit together and don't really look that nice... but then you...
