Default "PoL" Setting - Setting Info Compilation (Now Wikified!)

Never an official map. I think we will see many homebrew worlds using PoL locations. I know that's my plan.

    Oh, another one of Those...

I'm planning some web support for my campaign, and maybe an enworld blog/story hour too... but I've been trying to play with "slight variations" in mine. There is a continent of men, elves, and dwarves to the north with temperate forests that give way to tundra and vast cold mountain ranges, but...

So if Amazon screwed you, what are you going to do?

I got my notice from Amazon about the delay, so I dumped my order and ordered the books individually from Amazon. $10 more and no slip case, but the savings are still worth it to me. Should be here on the 11th. I went ahead and preordered most of the rest of the year's releases, just in case it...

Please kill off dual wielding ranger genre for 5th ed, please?

I like the ranger as either artillery or melee skirmisher. A lightly armed, movement based, martial character is great and I prefer classes that give me very different directions (and the ability to mix and match to build custom characters). I'd prefer to see the rogue go away. Most of the olf...

Now that 4e is out, are you into it or sticking with a prior edition?

I'd like to think I was about 80% pro 4e. I have no campaign right now. We've been playing some SWSE while we wait for the dust to settle. I'm happy enough with what I've seen now, and will be moving forward with a 4e campaign later this month.

Which Dragonborn Breath is for you?

I have a Dragonborn Paladin and Warlord in my group. One player chose fire. The other chose lightening.

So if Amazon screwed you, what are you going to do?

They tell me I'm still getting my books on the 9th, but they haven't shipped yet. I did choose one day shipping... If they aren't here on the 9th I'll look for a deal on the gift set elsewhere or get the individual books. It's not that big a savings over the current discount on the single books...

Do you like being slated to win?

Character death and even a TPK is possible in 4e. Several happened in playtest. Characters do become harder to kill as they level... but that seems natural to me, right up to the epic concept of characters having to be effectively killed twice in an encounter to be truly dead at the highest...

Default "PoL" Setting - Setting Info Compilation (Now Wikified!)

I'd love to see this go to a 4e wiki of some sort with page references. Lots of us intend to use the PoL to some degree, with our own maps and such... A compilation of purely official resources would be a real asset as more books are released.

    Ki and Elemental - Whatever

I think symmetry with the planes is unlikely. It would make perfect sense in previous editions, but this crew doesn't seem so stuck on filling grids and matching things up.

Should I cancel amazon pre order and order from buy.com?

I wonder if the wave of cancellations as people tried to get in on the buy.com deal is what caused the increase in savings at Amazon. Either way, I just placed an order with Amazon. I didn't see anything about an extra 5% for preordering though. Maybe that ship has sailed?

    Ki and Elemental - Whatever

I was really hoping for a spirit power source. If Ki or Primal ends up fitting the bill, I'll be happy. If not... I'll be hoping a high quality 3rd party picks it up. Otherwise I'm not so big on Ki. Martial is good enough, since the high level martial powers are supernatural enough to take care...

    Concerning buying D&D 4th Edition

The system is failing the 'little guy,' not the customers. Bulk discounts drive prices down and make it easier for distributors who can reach wider audiences to sell for less. 45% discount? That's a lot of money. That's like a whole 'nother book. I just can't justify not taking advantage of that...

World setting, and your upcoming plans...

I'll be running a campaign of my own design in a setting that will use 60% or more of the PoL setting from the books. It will focus on more of a beacon than a point, a city-state that formed from a colony established by the human empire just before it fell, and has become one of the last trade...

Humans as monsters - many varieties needed

Gang entries for humanoids are one of the few places that I'm on the fence with 4e. It deliberately puts different species at different level ranges, and feels a little video gamey to me. At the same time I've really liked the gang entries I've seen thus far. I like how they work together. Talk...

D&D 4E If 4e fails you, what then?

I don't anticipate this at all. I'm in the "95% of it sounds really fun" camp, and I think anout 3% will end up being non-issues in actual play. If it were an utter failure... I'd likely finish out my current SWSE campaign and then go to Shadowrun. I've still got plenty of 3.5E books and I'm not...

WotC Official PDF versions - would you buy them?

$10 would probably be low enough. I don't know that my digital bookshelf would match my physical one, but I'm going to be doing a lot of campaign work at the computer. It would also be a lot easier for me to read books at work if I could throw them on a thumb drive.

How will you read the core books day one?

I don't tend to read reference books cover to cover. My plan is to do a slow browse of the MM. I have some broad strokes laid for a campaign and I want to see if the critters I've chosen will fit the level ranges I want them in. I also want to see what other critters jump out at me in an "oh I...

Web Enhancements and FAQ for Keep on the Shadowfell?

It's funny how the customer's wants aren't the primary factor for the entire committee. I know they can't please everyone all the time, but a lot of us have similar gripes about the basic functionality and organization of the site at this point. If DDI is going to be a success, the customers'...
