ToV So What's In Kobold Press' BLACK FLAG First Playtest?

This is like blood from a stone... https://koboldpress.com/project-black-flag-friday-design-diary-1/ This tells me nothing. They need to Define exactly what they mean by: Backward Compatible. Does it mean everything will be fully backwards compatible? Including additional rules crunch like...

ToV So What's In Kobold Press' BLACK FLAG First Playtest?

For those of us that signed up for the playtest; what is really needed is a statement of your design goals. Maybe 2-3 sentences with a few bullet points outlining what the specific design goals are for the Core RPG. That would give us a framework in which to give constructive criticism for...

ToV So What's In Kobold Press' BLACK FLAG First Playtest?

Worlds without number is a good example of a 'middle ground' game of the style I'd be interested to see someone do with 5e. A streamlining and simplifying treatment, not full rules lite. It's not fundamental changes. It's the inevitable "small" changes that will add up. Much like the 3.0 to...

ToV So What's In Kobold Press' BLACK FLAG First Playtest?

LOL, You're probably right... But 5e is actually quite fiddly, and more complex than people credit it in play. 5e just has such a large network effect with people available to tell new players how things work, that it is largely masked. Worlds without number is a good example of the middle...

ToV So What's In Kobold Press' BLACK FLAG First Playtest?

There is also a middle ground of design between core 5e, and rules light B&B, 5 torches deep, into the unknown. No one has treaded that 5e middle ground design paradigm yet. They have either explicitly added crunch like Level up, or gone total rules light like B&B, 5 torches deep, and Into...

    D&D Movie/TV Here Come The D&D Movie Gaming Tie-Ins!

My problem is that the 'Hero' costumes are far more on the Xena side of things than House of the Dragon. The budget for this film is not small, and I've seen better cosplay outfits... ^This^ So underrated...

If You're "Permanently" Boycotting WotC, They're Not Going To Listen To You

These people owe "the community" nothing. Who cares what decisions they make? You don't need Wotzi to play D&D. The more people that realize that, the better it is for the RPG hobby the long run.

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

Yes it is. Completely. "It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard." Get back onboard? Really!? After what Wotzi wanted to do... For the second time running? No thank you. No one should bow down and go back to lick the hand that feeds. Also; No Forgiveness =/= Staying Angry. Never...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

Surprised again! It is the full SRD. Now I'm suspicious as hell... ^This^ Maybe I'm too jaded, but this complete capitulation seems wayyy too easy...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

I stand corrected! The result is the same, it is something they direly wish they could do a backsies on. Buy we haven't seen exactly what they are putting in the CC yet. I'll wait a bit...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

This was done when D&D nerd Peter Adkinson ran the roost at WotC, pre Hasbro buyout. No publicly traded corporation would ever do such a thing. Believe me, if Hasbro-Wotzi would take it back if they thought they could get away with it. Oh, that's right, They've tried that Twice now... Fool...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

"It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard." Saying that they will leave 1.0a alone is not the same as publicly acknowledging that it was irrevocable to begin with. They say that they are giving their customers "what they want", while at the same time still engaging in sly...

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

But none of the main designers that shaped and created 5e are involved in the table top side of things anyomre...

Hasbro won't back off from deauthorizing the OGL, and nor should they.

Wotzi has utterly surprised me, and have seemingly waived the white flag: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1439-ogl-1-0a-creative-commons The question now seems: Do these 3pp stick to their guns? And maybe I'm just super cynical - but I'm looking at this whole "We're giving you what you want"...

Cubicle 7 Also Announces A New 'C7d20' System

That is a quick turnaround time. But they have lots of 5e content that they can quickly leverage into a full game. I'd expect to see lots of AiME in the new C7d20 RPG... While in the short term a balkanization of competing 5E-alikes will happen. Eventually one will emerge on top. The hobby...

I find the corporate logic of that entirely persuasive. It would not surprise me in the least if those rumors all come true.

Hasbro won't back off from deauthorizing the OGL, and nor should they.

I do not see any scenario where that will happen. They have spent far too much money acquiring D&D beyond, and creating the OneVTT to back down now.

Hasbro won't back off from deauthorizing the OGL, and nor should they.

It would still be very expensive and painful for Pazio as well. Just slightly less so than it would be for others. And wotc could drag things out in court for years... Exactly. Pazio is going to do what is best for Pazio. If removing trademarked terms and using ORC is enough to keep them...

    Matt Colville weighs in.

Absolutely true. That is also the entire reason that wotc is going all-in on the D&D OneVTT. WotC wants what Diablo Immortal has. They are hoping to convert their current player network into a VTT money making machine. And the haters can all eat cake...
