    Girls (Females) in D&D/Roleplaying

    1. How many female roleplayers do you have presently in your campaign(s)? Currently one. But then she is my ONLY player at the moment till I start more campaigns... :) 2. Percentagewise, with how many females did you share your hobby in your own gaming history so far in comparison to...

    D&D Adventure Tropes

The first things I thought of were of all meeting in a tavern/inn (Which is in the tropes) - And the "Clearing rats out of a basement". I did not see that one. Not that I know of these actually appearing in any published works... But those are the tropes I think of first for D&D... :)...

D&D 3.x gamers who skipped 4e, why are you not "upgrading" to Pathfinder?

For *me*, I liked 3e but I wanted something better. I liked SW Saga and that got me excited for 4e hoping that was its direction. When I saw and played 4e, I was disappointed - It was not the game that *I* wanted to play. Some of the ideas were nice, but it did not fit. 3e felt too complex...

    Reducing Options to Increase Fun

Another thing I have found that helps is how a system's rules tie together. For example - 3E with its options like grapple, etc. They do not have the same flow and ease as other rules - are completely separate. Now make that grapple the same as any other attack and give it a different effect...

    Reducing Options to Increase Fun

In some ways I agree with the OP... I know when I crafted my system there were certain limits I wanted, but also some things I did not want to limit. For example, I like SW Saga as it had few classes with several options - I much preferred that over 4e where it feels like a different option...

    Legomania!

Agreed, LEGOs make great miniatures. I used them for any game at my house (I had kept my extensive collection). They work great - especially with a flat 2x3 base to help their stability. It fits perfectly in a standard battlemat. Smoss

    Your game trajectory

Age 11 - Roll up stats for a ranger I called "Commando" for D&D, never played Age 17 - Sat in one game of Paranoia Age 18 - College. Introduced to AD&D 2e, played lots Age 19 - Still 2e, plus some Shadowrun 1e Age 20 - Still 2e, plus a flirt with White Wolf and WEG's Star Wars d6 Age 21 - Run...

Homebrew Worlds- What is in YOUR world?

The Sixth Age of Doulairen - After playing in this world in some of its earlier ages (Separated by massive apocalypses), we come to the final age. An age where monsters and exotic races are rare and dying off. Where civilization rises and brings corruption with it. A gritty world where the...

The Worst Awsome thing done in a game.

My favorite moment was playing in 1st Ed Shadowrun... It was me solo for some talky RP. I was in a helicopter flying over Seattle with a powerful corporate leader who was threatening me - A leader who happened to be a dragon (in human form). I pulled my gun and the dragon laughed, "That thing...

What do people play more of nowadays?

I play in a homebrew system friends made and GM my own RPG system. I just cant stand dealing with other systems anymore - I spoiled myself by creating a "perfect" system for my style. :) Technically it might be considered OGL, but the mechanics have drifted further and further from it. I may...

How much complexity is right for you?

For me personally - I worked quite a while to hit my perfect balance of realism vs speed of play. For me - 4e and 3e D&D are both too slow in combat. SW Saga improved on that, so I aimed at about that level of speed. But I also wanted it to feel more REAL than D&D or Saga. It is a tough job...

    Game Derailment

My memory popped up a couple more.... Getting too old. One was when I started RP-ing way back in college while I was nigh constantly drunk (Humorous on its own). A friends suggested that after the 1v1 honor battle with the Hobgoblin General (That I won), that I should "tweak his nose". I...

    Game Derailment

Well, there was the time that a friend was doing his DM thing and was planning on being completely serious - Everything we said was "in-game". That was a mistake. We were up against a demon called "Neighbor Finnian" (Funny enough by itself), and we gave him a trapped scroll (He asked for it -...

Animal Cults... (the good and the bad...)

I know I wanted some DIFFERENT cults for my game world - Avoiding the more cliche spider/snake cults where possible. Out of the classic cliches, I kept only the Dragon Cult. I do have the Crane Cult - Though they are not "devout", they do respect the grace and have generally peaceful relations...

    D&D + CoC

Sounds to me like what you REALLY want to do falls under setting/world building. How to set the mood for horror in a D&D game. Several people have pointed out some good resources for that (Ravenloft, some old adventures, etc) I would suggest starting things normally. Have conflicts be with...

    D&D + CoC

I designed my current campaign world around a similar theme of sorts. my direction was a more Robert E Howard world. Humans vs Humans. But monsters are VERY much monsters. Horrors that are often among the last of their kind. As my RPG system leaves people relatively frail, encounters with...

Irrevocable death? Or do you allow resurrection?

I like my deaths permanent as much as possible. My RPG system has no normal path to ressurection (Except as an undead...) So I voted Rarely. My PCs know the consequences of death... And avoid combat where possible - Or actually use tactics other than "charging in blindly"... :)...

Perfect Combat System? Not too short, not too long, but just right?

I designed my system to have hit points based strictly on Constitution (No levels or classes in my RPG system). Nearly unchanging hit points works well for the feel of "growing skills but still human". Of course, that makes my system quite deadly - Though my tweak of defenses means a combat is...

    Session to Death Ratio

Surprisingly I have not killed a PC for a while. Considering how deadly my system is, it has really surprised me. Even showing it off to some friends a couple weeks back who had never gotten a chance to play with it (And I threw a nasty at them just for the fun of playing around). They...
