    Adventurer's Vault 2 Playtest

The tattoos don't seem too bad. Sure, you can tweak out a Dwarven Battlerager or an Orc Barbarian or a Half-Elf Whatever a bit, but still, they're definitely not overpowered. Also, how are these characters going about "spending" healing surges right as they wake up? I'm sure certain magical...

Fiction You Read Over the Past Year

I read the entire Horatio Hornblower series, the entire (so far) Wheel of Time series, so that's twenty plus right there. Good to see Patrick O'Brian getting some love. But sometimes I have to buckle down and agree with one of my favorite comedians... "You know what I like better about...

    I think we're done with 4E

While this is true, there's nothing like seeing a 4E Barbarian crit with a daily and immediately take a second swing. Even Solo monsters cringe when it happens. :D On top of that, a Rogue and Ranger's max damage on a crit (with SA or HQ going) can be pretty nasty, easily bringing a healthy...

Pramas: Does 4E have staying power?

Sweet mercy. It's WotC's responsibility to protect the entire industry from losing ground to online RPGs? That's a tough battle. People think that playing World of Warcraft is a viable hobby because it IS a viable hobby. There's nothing WotC or any other company can do about that.

    OOTS 613 is up!

For some reason, I got a hint of Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes from Belkar in the last panel. Hrm. Good strip!

Does everyone take Superior Weapon Proficiencies?

I try to take it for weapon-based strikers myself, since I'd say they benefit the most (although defenders are pretty close).

    Previews for December and Beyond

And the Von Zarovich sword's daily power can only be used on an OA or a free attack granted by an ally...because immediate actions can't be taken on your own turn, right?

    Gen Con Acquisition Group Revealed

And according to the article, Gallela has been in fairly close contact with Swartout and Adkison, which puts the dismissal even more in question. Hrm. I hope everything works out. I'm still planning on going. ;)

    layoffs?

's cool, buddy. It would be nice to know the full story, and I'm sure we'll have a better idea of what went down after a few months. As Fifth Element mentioned, though, sometimes companies have to do what they must. Also, good on your company for the charitable donations and belt-tightening. :)

    layoffs?

It's not "putting our heads in the sand." It's saying that since we don't work there and have no clue what's been going on with the company financially or otherwise, we shouldn't make any conclusions that we can't back up. Conclusions like "...at the very least WotC seems to have some very...

    layoffs?

Just a quick note: Although layoffs always suck at this time of year, they're definitely nothing new for WotC or, well, the rest of America. Budgets turn over in December/January for many companies, thus necessitating layoffs and other cost-cutting procedures. We also don't know whether or...

    layoffs?

Maybe FFG, but to what use would they put 'em? Hopefully, since these layoffs are well-known to be cyclical, they already have plans for where to go next. Game designers and the online gaming people could probably try to step out of the RPG business and work for companies like Disney...anyone...

    layoffs?

Sweet mercy. Do we have any other confirmation on those names? (no offense to Lisa, of course) Best of luck to those who were let go.

NPC vs NPC fights : Should I just fake them?

Yep! If an NPC is really a DMPC or working alongside the PCs for an extended period of time, definitely by the book. If there's a situation like Lizard described where there's multiple battles going on at multiple times, I might have the PCs roll a d20 against a roll of my own at the end of...

    Wild Shape, What's Yours?

The platypus has a very harsh venom that it excretes through spurs on its hind limbs. The venom is so potent, not even morphine can stop the pain, and a human victim is usually paralyzed in agony for a number of hours, or even up to a day. So it's got that going for it. Also, the platypus is...

    I think we're done with 4E

My usual rules as a (relatively new) DM for 4E: 1. If the enemies have a purpose or some kind of goal, they have full HP. 2. If the enemies are simply there to battle the PCs, they're at 3/4 or so, except for VIPs and what-not. 3. Always make sure to have at least 1-2 combats include a goal...

Are 4e feats far less exciting than 3.x?

Yep, I'm the same way. I'll branch out now and then to snag some of the class' "must haves," but I'm most likely going to have Durable and Improved Initiative first. Initiative wins battles. I wish I could persuade every frickin' player I've ever gamed with to take that feat. Or at least...

    I like Roles

Heh. I'm curious about that one, too. The best I can muster is that you should never, ever take a non-house-ruled Dodge. But that's because I've never, ever been in a game without Dodge being house-ruled, and I am one AWESOME player. Facts! They speak for themselves. :D

    Reading 4e

"I can't believe the 'Soft nerfed Invokers! And what's with the new diceless system? This isn't Amber, you &@#!*$%s!" "Dude, just use your imagination. It's flawless." And then someone will start talking about any addition before 3.x, and everyone will pretend to care. :D
