So, for every Paladin that wants to take a different PP, they're just SOL? ;) Eh, it's just not a class for everyone, and this is all my opinion, so no biggie.

The problem a group of mine with a Paladin encountered is, the solos and elites that weren't undead just didn't care enough about the damage (or the -2 atk, natch) for it to be meaningful. Even 17 damage...a Solo can easily suck that up and spend a few rounds DEVASTATING a striker or controller...
