MtG, D&D and Me TITLE NAME EDIT-The thread where Joe apparently offends everyone

Could someone refine Joe's first post into a series of short, snappy sound-bites that my mind can gobble up and then forget about after a few minutes? It's the only way my brain can handle information. :p

Elegant Rules (Forked From: Inconsistant/Arbitrary rules...)

I've only played (mainly) 3.0, 3.5, and 4E, but I really like 4E's inclusion of Epic-level gameplay as part of the base game, and not thrown into a supplement later on. Makes sure the game handles everyone's needs, as far as level goes. And it's another step in the direction of having...

Ki versus Psionic: Power Sources Do Battle (in a semantic sort of way)

Really? He was the crappiest of the Planeteers. B-)

Ki versus Psionic: Power Sources Do Battle (in a semantic sort of way)

Psionic sounds cooler, and since I don't give two craps about power sources anyway, that's a good enough reason for me to vote for it. :D

    MM II Identity Parade

Maybe the more venerable good-aligned dragon stuff will come from the next Draconomicon? It seems that for the core MM books, they're focusing on making sure that DMs can run them as enemies if need be. Here's hoping, I like it when parties can work in tandem with good dragons. Although it's...

Classes and Roles: supply and demand

So every group without a controller should have a ranger or a sorcerer? His point is valid; minions do VERY well increasing the threat against parties with little to no controller focus (including not having a controller itself). You're right in pointing out that it's too easy to simply claim...

    That's gotta be frustrating. :(

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

Common parlance means jack-squat in D&D. One of the classes is named "Fighter," of all things. Every class FIGHTS. And you say my metric is limited. So be it; I think my metric is pretty standard for what most D&D players use, so if that means it's limited, well, there ya go. But once...

Which RPGs are you currently playing?

Just playing in a bunch of 4E games right now. Looking forward to starting a Trail of Cthulhu game sometime this winter or next year, after we finish up a converted Age of Worms. I'm almost D&D'd out. Almost.

Heh, I had to reread the article; you're quite right, a good amount of powers granting saving throws. Warden|Monk hybrid = Unstoppable! (maybe)

    Surely you mean defenses. ;)

    The redefinition of feats.

Oh, you! :p Talents work, though. Better than Feats.

    The redefinition of feats.

Yeah, this still bugs me as well. Honestly, it's hard to go gung-ho with meeting pre-reqs for a "feat" that only gives you a bonus. "YES! Finally, my close blast spells do +2 damage when I'm adjacent to an ally! It's the dawning of a new, fantastic era." It's all in the name, really. They...

Now that I think about it, the Barb also felt/feels quite a bit different from the other Primal classes, once we could compare it. And considering how much I loved the other Primal classes, this gives me high hopes for Psionics. :)

Thanks to everyone who put me on the true path, so to speak. ;) Me thinks those at-will movement techniques are...ah...insanely good, then. That Crane one, for sure. There's a Barbarian encounter utility that's just like that, only worse. Take THAT, Barbarians. I suppose all that movement...

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

The argument seems to be, since some of the non-magical classes are now doing what some of the magical classes were doing in previous editions, that makes it magic. I think.

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

I guess I just don't see any difference. :erm: It's all been crazy, out-there, earth-shattering heroics for at least the two editions I've played. We can go ahead and say that your measure of difference between one insanity and another is more "subtle," but that doesn't make it correct. The...

I think you can only use one Full Discipline technique once per round? So the move action, then the standard, or vice versa, with a minor thrown in somewhere. I dunno. That sidebar makes my head hurt. I'd also ditto that Incarnum was great fun as far as mechanics go, but the fluff was meh.

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

I liked your car analogy better. Earlier editions are the Model T. 4 wheels. Engine. Probably some kind of windshield. 4th edition is a corvette. 4 wheels. Engine. Probably some kind of windshield. Everything else that's different is just window dressing. Fundamentally, they're the...

Y'know, this Full Discipline thing, I LIKE it, I really do...but it's a simple enough mechanic that it could work for every class. It would've made everyone's at-wills a lot cooler.
