    Review of Inn Between Worlds

It wasn't that long ago that I read the original (1e?).

D&D General How Do You Create Great Magical Items?

My buddy likes to write rpg books and puts them up for pay-to-print (or whatever it's called). One of the small books he put out was called, "Book of Ten Trillion Things" and was just a system of random tables with descriptors and nouns used to generate random items. It's completely system...

D&D General why do we have halflings and gnomes?

Gnomes I like because they're A. from real world folklore with history and B. they have innate magic powers that not every other PC shows up with at 1st level. Halfings... feel like absolute worthless filler, to me. I'll let people play them, but I'll detail a campaign setting with like 20...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tasha's Optional Class Features - Using Them or Not?

Pretty much every group I've ever played in or run has allowed retraining of options if the player changed their mind or didn't like how the character was turning out. Tasha's is nice, but the core concept of swapping stuff was already a basic aspect of RPGs, to us.

    D&D 5E (2014) Does the Artificer Suck?

I need to look at the infusion list. Can the artificer make a portable hole? You could send a homunculus into the dragon with a bag of holding AND a portable hole that you infused, put them inside each other in the dragon's stomach, and not lose any permanent magic items after making a tear in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does the Artificer Suck?

One thing that throws off perception of damage is nova vs. sustained damage. The paladin can certainly have great spikes of damage with smite, but at 6th level you only have 2 level 2 slots per day, and a level 3d8 smite is really the only thing that will outshine the steel defender's at-will...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does the Artificer Suck?

Echo knight is a fighter sub from the Wildemount campaign setting. You can create and "echo" at-will that is basically a summon that can fly around and make melee attacks for you. They have alright melee nova ability since you can get a number of extra attacks per day equal to your Con but the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does the Artificer Suck?

I'm currently playing a hexblade 3/echo knight 8. I'm mostly fighter levels but warlock shenanigans are so strong, I can completely focus on Cha while dumping Str, stacking hex + curse + crit range on all melee and ranged attacks. You're right that adding a couple of levels of warlock can...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does the Artificer Suck?

Every class is better if it can steal enough from the warlock. Lol

D&D 5E (2014) So Where my Witches at?

The main issue with the warlock-as-witch in 5e is that the warlocks gets lots of the fluff of the witch but is primarily a blaster and at-will magic engine. The flavor fits in a superficial way but the poison, curses, potions, and subtlety of the folklore witch isn't strongly supported by the...

D&D 4E Anyone playing 4e at the moment?

The most bizarre phenomenon I've seen over and over is people loving 5e for feature X while hating 4e for feature X. I've also seen podcasts where 5e is lauded for introducing a design feature that was actually introduced in 4e. It's pretty clearly that the presentation of design in 4e was a...

    D&D General aasimar appearance

I prefer to just swap all of the fluff as aesthetics out for the deva. Unique racial appearance, more compelling backstory, etc.

D&D General What editions of Dungeons & Dragons do you like?

So far, no DM I'm playing with has let me walk in an change the rules at their table.

D&D 5E (2014) TCOE: Is reskinning your origin allowed by RAW?

As long as you're not trying to use custom origin for a free feat, then saying you're really an elf and talking Elven Accuracy, you're fine. Any reflavoring is cool up until you're trying to get only the good stuff from column A and B.

D&D 5E (2014) What House Rules Can You NOT Live Without?

Yes! I remember the playtest when this was presented as how it might work. I think having all of the skills and tool profs decoupled from ability scores adds a ton of depth to the game.

D&D General What editions of Dungeons & Dragons do you like?

I mostly want to take the pieces I like from the editions I've played and slap them onto 5e.

D&D 5E (2014) What House Rules Can You NOT Live Without?

Retraining. You picked an ASI and want a feat later? Swap it. Your spells didn't work out and you need to swap a bunch but the book only lets you switch like one? Who cares? Swap it.

D&D 5E (2014) Variant Monk that uses Strength instead of Wisdom?

This is why I think every class should have gotten a subclass at level one. It's too clunky to expect someone to change their ability scores or build once they make a decision at level 3.

    D&D 5E (2014) Monster PCs

I feel like the most balanced and fair way to do this is to just figure out how to translate the monster abilities and hit dice into a class levels. Like you mentioned, a chained devil might be a level 5 (or whatever) character roughly balance to have a features and hit points on par with...

D&D General Miniatures shouldn't be edition-dependent (a Fire Giant size rant)

Buy a single 3" base fire giant for your 3.5 game? Cool. Now there's a Huge sized fire giant boss to stat up. Easy. /thread
