    Dragon Age, Chris Pramas interview

Here's a summary off the top of my head. I'm sure I didn't cover everything. The game will be put out as an old-school boxed set covering levels 1 to 5. There are plans for more boxed sets each covering 5 levels with a max character level of 20. The setting is based on the videogame. There...

Why do DM's like Dark, gritty worlds and players the opposite?

Just because someone thinks they see a trend, doesn't mean that there really is a trend. The OP stated an opinion. Others have come onto the thread and offered their opinion. Many have different opinions to the OP. No one has come forward with any kind of objective proof of some sort of...

    Dragon Age, Chris Pramas interview

I'm looking forward to this game, both the tabletop and Xbox 360 versions.

Why do DM's like Dark, gritty worlds and players the opposite?

Really? :erm: I've never as a DM thought of winning or losing the game. In my games, the challenges are there for the players to overcome. I get frustrated with Tom and Jerry because that smug little mouse almost always wins, but I've never thought anything like that towards my players...

    Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Preview Picture

I think the player standees are mainly for a general idea of position. There is no big board or battlemap as far as I know. There are all kind's of mini-boards and cards that use the counters though. There is an initiative tracker, a party sheet to use counters on, a stance tracker, etc. You...

    Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Preview Picture

It's definitely pretty. I'm still on the fence about whether to buy it or not. I probably will, but it's a big change rules wise. It also looks like a game that requires a lot of table space to play.

D&D and Computer Games, through the ages

This was one of my favorite games as a kid. You had to go from dungeon to dungeon trying to get to a volcano that had fragments of a crown guarded by dragons. It was one of the first games I played that you could actually win. In the dungeons, you could hear the creatures before you coud see...

Why do DM's like Dark, gritty worlds and players the opposite?

I like dark gritty worlds as a GM and as a player. Most of my players tend to like them too. What I don't like is very lethal combat systems. It might be realistic, but I don't have as much fun. I like combat, and I like longterm investment in characters.

Forked - Flatfooted and the beginning of combat.

I wasn't specifically talking about my football analogy at this point. Someone who wins initiative at the start of combat gets 6 full seconds of actions without any fear of an attack of opportunity. I don't know any rule I'm misusing. If he isn't flat-footed, the offensive lineman still gets...

Forked - Flatfooted and the beginning of combat.

It seems to me this is just a discussion over whether it is possible to catch someone who is alert momentarily off-guard at the start of action, and also when that action really starts. Sports have been used for analogy, so I will use sports again. In football, the offense knows the snap...

    [Trailer] Solomon Kane

Thanks! I've never been in someone's sig before. :D

Forked - Flatfooted and the beginning of combat.

Yes. In a game with things as abstract as hit points, I have no problem with the way initiative works. Even an alert person can be too slow to react. This is compounded by the fact few fights in D&D are one on one. Sure the fighter might be ready for the bugbear to try something, but he...

So why are you at ENWorld?

Same here. I also have a job stuck in front of a computer 9 hours a day and nothing to do half the time. It leaves me plenty of time to kill.

    Ares I-X

It's definitely nice to see a new vehicle from NASA after all these years. I hope it helps rekindle a more adventurous spirit of exploration.

How many from your group(s) use ENW?

To the best of my knowledge, I'm the only one out of my group of 5.

Where to find misc game table props?

Arts and crafts stores. A good store should have model railroad, doll house, miniature/curio, toys, and plastic model items that can be of use.

How were you introduced to RPGs?

I started playing with my 2 older brothers sometime in 1981. I'm the only one in the family that still plays.

    [October] What are you reading?

I just read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I'm currently reading The Real History of the American Revolution by Alan Axelrod. I'm also planning to read Wonders of the Invisible World Being An Account of the Trials of Several Witches Lately Executed in New England by Cotton Mather.

    [Trailer] Solomon Kane

*SPOILERS* Having read the reviews, the added backstory as described doesn't fit the character of Solomon Kane. In the stories, it is mentioned that Kane has always been the kind of person to protect or avenge those that have been wronged. It's a fundemental part of his character. He spends...
