Paladins at dinner parties: Polite or Truthful?

Okay, so can you give me a list of real life paladins besides Joan of Arc, according to the strictest of definitions? I suspect it will be a short one.

    What do you think?

I agree with Umbran. It's hard to say. Personally, I would have been afraid if he brought real weapons and armor with him, but he didn't. Now as for the way he dresses, he should be able to dress any which way he wants just like you or I. Again, if this or anything else he does bothers...

Paladins at dinner parties: Polite or Truthful?

You guys are taking the definition of a paladin much more strictly than I am. If you consider many of the knights who went on the crusades as paladins, then you've got a whole different story there. Anyhow, by your strict definitions, only Joan of Arc and maybe a few MYTHICAL figures like Sir...

Paladins at dinner parties: Polite or Truthful?

While I agree with most of the posts here, I have to say this makes it very difficult for someone to play a paladin.

    What do you think?

If he's making you or other people feel uncomfortable then you should dump him. But if he just likes to dress up and act eccentric, then I don't see a real problem. I'm not saying he is, but even the mentally ill should have the right to play D&D. I feel like I'm in the minority on this...

    What do you think?

Who knows, he could turn out to be a really fun guy to have around. But if he's disrupting your game or you're worried that he might cause any other problems, then I'd drop him.

Paladins at dinner parties: Polite or Truthful?

Nice prose there, Celebrim! Anyhow, does anyone know where the 3e cavalier is detailed. I know not everyone may agree with my philosophy on paladins, so a cavalier would be a good substitution in many ways.

[OT] Giant bird spotted off Alaska

Yeah, if it was in metropolitan Los Angeles like the Rodney King beating, then I would expect one person would have a camera or camcorder out of the thousands of people where the incident occurred. However, in this part of Alaska you're dealing with a few people here and there separated by...

Paladins at dinner parties: Polite or Truthful?

I'd say that would have to be in the case of repeat offenses or something really really terrible like enjoying killing an entire group of peasants. Anyhow, if a paladin thinks that he was doing good by burning down an entire village to follow the orders of his king and preserve peace in the...

[OT] Giant bird spotted off Alaska

You have a point, but you have to understand that this part of Alaska is sparsely populated. I would guess that a dozen or so people saw this bird and then it flew away. Even if they took a picture of it, it would most likely be in the sky and be difficult to judge a scale on it.

Paladins at dinner parties: Polite or Truthful?

But yes, Darklance, I would agree that a paladin would try to find a better solution. If he/she couldn't, however, then I don't see why some "lawful neutral/evil" behavior shouldn't be allowed. I'm in the camp that Druids are not eco-friendly good guys all the time either, so...

Paladins at dinner parties: Polite or Truthful?

Just because you're a certain alignment doesn't mean you have to act 100% to the dot like that all the time. A lawful good character can act lawful neutral at times just like a neutral character can act good or evil depending on the situation. Lawful good doesn't mean saintly, heck even saints...

Paladins at dinner parties: Polite or Truthful?

Neither paladins nor anyone of lawful good alignment are necessarily always truthful or "goody-two shoes". Everybody lies. As far as I know, paladins are not under a truth compulsion spell and white lies for the sake of good manners are perfectly acceptable. Anyhow, I don't see any reason why...

[OT] Giant bird spotted off Alaska

It's probably an oversized Steller's sea eagle. Sometimes, you get a freak large specimen of an animal species appear out of nowhere. It's just like we have 7' tall humans. If it finds a similarly large mate, who knows, maybe it'll start a race of giant eagles and we'll have to send a party...

    Gaming Stores

Does anyone know how many gaming stores there are in the U.S.? Also, I'm curious to know which is the largest and has the widest selection. I'd like to visit that store one day... If anyone knows where the best store in the world is, I'd like to know that, too. Btw, does anyone know how...

Return to the Barrier Peaks, Fiend Folio, and Unearthed Arcana?

Yeah, if relying on an old classic to make some sales is a good idea... I've noticed the quality never seems to match up though.

    Payment of Writers

Yeah, but you still have to make the sale at the bookstore or the distributor won't carry your stuff anymore. Anyhow, getting back to topic a bit here. I don't know if paying by the word is always such a good idea. That's because I see a lot of wordy text out there and quite a bit of...

Did Necromancer Games ever make a profit on "The Crucible of Freya"? I didn't think the $7.99 price tag would for the first run, but how about now? I have to admit I bought it partly because of the price, but mostly because I liked the free download "The Wizard's Amulet". When you do print...

What is your favourite fantasy sub-genre?

But "Sword & Sorcery" and "Sword of Shannara" are pretty much D&D-inspired, aren't they? So, people are essentially voting for D&D. The other categories are more pre-D&D.
