Are your players usually ok with restrictions?

What Mouseferatu said. No probs if the restrictions are put together to reinforce a theme. Random arbitrariness for its sake would annoy me. A level of internal consistency is required.

WotC Seeks Unity with a New Edition

mubunny's quote I think covers the first part of your post it pretty good. Yea, 4E's way of handling wizard's aoe spells is quite a departure from previous editions. I think is significantly more efficient (having only 1 die roll instead of 2 per enemy).

WotC Seeks Unity with a New Edition

They are getting rid of 4e just like 1E/2E/3E were "gotten rid of". A new edition essentially requires moving on. It is kind of part of the process. I like that they are using an pseudo crowd-source methodology to help create the next version of the game. I think that is awesome and has great...

WotC Seeks Unity with a New Edition

Actually, for me, 4E is the best version of the game. They greatly distilled the D&D RPG into into an awesome, streamlined and balanced game. I do not think it is perfect by any means, but it is none-the-less awesome. I think 4E is a great success and hails a massive improvement and advancement...

    That would be great.

Centaurs and other 'Tauric Races Supplement

I did not look to closely at this preview, but what I really need to see is the crunch. Balance is really important to me and I need to see the sort of mechanics that you have put together in order to judge whether your product balanced enough for me to consider for my games. I am not...

MS Word or Open Office Writer Document Template for Fantasy Campaign Guide?

Does anyone know of an free colorful two-column Open Office Writer or MS Office document template that could be used to put together a Campaign Guide for a howbrew 4E campaign? I am looking for something that has a a definite, but not in your face fantasy look. Perhaps something like the...

    Free action item draw/stow: overpowered?

I imagine that you cannot use free actions during the resolution of an existing action, which would prevent your stated situation.

What would you want in a book of naval rules?

I think as some have said starting with "real world"ish math is good for those who wish to play more historically accurate games. It also gives you a place to start from. The modularity idea I think is a great one, especially when it comes to ships and the rules. Having lists of historically...

    Dragon: Elemental Patrons and Palaces

Good stuff man. Congrats! I think I will be using this for something I am working on. I have a country of elemental folk... genasi... and they are going to need patrons.

    Forward Observer and dim light

Pretty much what Ryujin sadi. I understand exactly what you are saying though. Attempting to inject too much realism and physics into the game breaks the fantasy. =(

What would you want in a book of naval rules?

In a higher magic setting this would make sense, however if someone wanted to play a low magic or historical setting (ie viking) stats like that would be very useful.

What would you want in a book of naval rules?

....how skills interact or allow the PC's to take control or affect a ship's operation. a new skill just for navigation, etc ... or just use Nature? A Naval feat which unlocks Naval uses for skills.... themes which give bonuses to certain Naval actions...? There should be some way for...

Off to see the Wizards: The day that WotC showed me D&D 5th Edition

What Nemesis Destiny said. You always have had the choice of playing at whatever point in the settings timeline that you preferred, and to even create your own or change what is there. As a DM you can whever you want to your gaming world. Having support for the previous timelines is great idea...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hopes for the 5E Fighter

Upper_Krust - I really, really like what you have done there. I mean... what a great distillation. Perhaps as you gain levels you can gain access to more maneuvers. Starting out with a specific Fighter build would have you starting with 1 or 2 specific maneuvers and then you get to pick one two...
