D&D 5E (2014) Why are non-caster Ranger themes so popular?

Ranger could arguably not even be class but a fighter subtype layered on top.

Another vote for Foundry. I'm still using Roll20 (and I love it, I really don't have issues much but I do realize the automation aspect sucks) but Foundry looks amazing. I have it, but haven't delved into it enough to learn the mechanics, much less answer player questions. I'm not looking...

D&D 5E (2014) Block, Dodge, and Armor as DR

I would love to see something like this in D&D, but it would be a 6e overhaul. You can't muck with the mechanics like that without tremendous ripple effect.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think 5e is deadly enough and do you finish off downed characters?

I banned Revivify in my games, except as a Rare treasure item. Having access to 3rd level raise dead removes any tension, and the expensive material component, I found players ignoring it and trying to cast the spell whenever convenient, or focusing all of their efforts on...

Level Up (A5E) Monster preview thread!

Maybe Stalker, looking closer at the grab and bite, on a Crit, the horde is doing max of 65 damage (the grab) or up to max on crit with bite, 105 damage, and healing that immediately to the horde. Even without a crit that can be some serious damage. I can't think of anything that low CR that...

Level Up (A5E) Monster preview thread!

Players would rather die than lose their stuff, I've had some tell me that. Raise me from the dead, but my gear is gone, Also, steals up to 1000 gp!!!! So it can rob the richest person and just glide into the earth and not come back, and there's really not much the PCs can do. I love it.

I sure hope LU has a robust online character builder that can incorporate with a VTT. I don't think we'll have it out of the gate, but mid 2022 maybe? I'm really hoping for Foundry support and a full adventure I can buy for that VTT.

RPG Evolution: Return to Oz: Defining the Universe

Fantasy Flight had a game called Grimm that I never got to play, but that seems like it would be a good fit for Oz.

    Level Up (A5E) Player Durability?

I'm sure it can be done, but I have so little experience running games that high I wouldn't even know how to balance it. Is that one red dragon or two hiding in the closet?

    Level Up (A5E) Player Durability?

I agree. I frequently knock PCs to their asses. I have to hold back not to kill them actually. I don't generally run games past 8th or 9th level though. If you get that high and higher then they're much, much harder to kill and have too many tricks to keep standing. It gets to be a player/DM...

I didn't get into Roll20 until the start of 2020, and spent a lot of time learning it, and really, I don't have many complaints. I use the API, and I can run games faster in VTT than I did in person, and I have access to infinite maps and tokens and props, so aside from seeing players faces...

I'm with you. When I run LU I want to do it with Foundry, it looks like the best VTT out there currently.

The amount of modules (tweaks) you can add to Foundry are staggering. Attack animations, 3D models, animated dice of different substances that makes different sounds when they hit the virtual table. The content creators are very busy, and the community on Discord eager to help and answer...

I wish I could answer better, but I don't have enough knowledge of Foundry yet. I don't think it officially supports WotC modules yet, but I know you can import from Roll20 and Beyond and Foundry converts it to its system. For instance, I imported my Curse of Strahd game, and it turned it into a...

I have done some playtesting in it. It makes the VTT look like a video game. Which, in my personal opinion, 5e is already a video game in tabletop format. DnD has always been silly. Anyway, you can drag and draw spell templates straight from your token and it animates them; you can share...

    D&D 5E (2014) Open Source dilemmas...(AKA Creature Catalog/Tome of Beasts/Tome of Horrors etc.)

I'm about to use a color out of space from that Peterson book in my 5e game. It is going to scare the bejeezus out of the PCs. The color is going to literally melt an ogre in front of their eyes when they get to the top level of this tower. What they do from there, I imagine is either fleeing...
