Shadow of the Weird Wizard questions

I've been thinking about running this as a future alternative to 5e. 2024 just doesn't perk my interest, it is not sufficiently different than what I've already run for 10+ years now. I never ran Shadow of the Demon Lord but always heard good things about the system, and the Weird Wizard...

D&D 5E (2024) My preferred way of playing D&D 2024 is... miniatures or not?

100% miniatures, but since I switched to VTT, I would say 100% tokens. They're infinitely cheaper, especially for the monsters that die in 2 rounds and you never use that $20 mini again. Or the $20 of ten mooks you never use again.

What VTT(s) do you most dislike and why? (Defenders welcome to defend)

I hear people say this all the time, but I don't understand it personally. I have used Roll20 since 2020 and I love it. I don't like messing with the API scripts much, but I only really use one or two now. Roll20 is stable, it has never crashed on us, I don't have to configure anything, I...

How many were abused due to their love of D&D, RPGs, and related items when they were young?

I got a lot of grief from my parents (especially mom) over D&D as a teen. I think the worst incident was when Dragon magazine arrived in the mail (one of my favorite things) but it was the issue with a controversial cover with a semi-nude female cultist kneeling on a devil altar (admittedly, it...

What VTT(s) do you most dislike and why? (Defenders welcome to defend)

This is why I can't use Foundry. I bought it, I studied it, I watched Youtube videos, and I still can't wrap my head around it enough to coherently run a game. The technical knowhow is just beyond what my old brain can process without someone already very skilled just walking me through it step...

D&D 5E (2014) For those playing 2014 5e, how are you reacting to the 2024 update?

Still using 2014 for Spelljammer that I already mixed with Level Up some. I'm just not that excited about 2024. We keep the games no higher than 8th or 9th anyway. I use other monster manuals on Roll20 too so I already have access to thousands of monsters, more than I could ever possibly...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spelljammer 5e Campaign Recaps

The campaign is still going! I expect it will end by 8th or 9th, and they're at the cusp of 7th. I absolutely love this campaign, but I had to add stuff and rearrange things to make it work. But works it does. https://app.box.com/s/afqckh7sp62xei83inqxj2n04tdsbuh8...

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

Right, same here. I could only switch if the 5e campaign was over, not try to shoehorn in something else.

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

Limited time to play. Learning a new system cuts into that time, and most powerful of all, we like 5e and it works so why change. Now, as DM I can probably ultimately put my foot down eventually and say, "I am tired of 5e; we are playing something else. Here are the options." It helps that...

WizKids to Release Glow-in-the-Dark D&D Miniatures

Not easily in Roll20, but Foundry VTT probably does that.

WizKids to Release Glow-in-the-Dark D&D Miniatures

I long ago quit buying plasticrack, but I still love to use these for VTT. Some of the models are pretty sweet. The actual "glow" aspect is not particularly useful, but I could replicate it on the screen much better than at the table.

D&D 5E (2014) Not upgrading? What version of D&D 5e are you sticking with?

For my Spelljammer campaign we use Pre-Tasha and then all the spells from Level Up, some Supply and Travel and Fatigue rules, so we've already been playing a sort of "Advanced" version for a while and it works well (the Monster Menagerie is also exceptionally good). When this campaign is done I...

Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual 2024 Preview

The artwork is pretty fantastic overall. The monster section has taken cues from Level Up Menagerie and is better for it.

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

I have found in 5e that my players don't particularly like their characters dying. The threat of death is enough to get them sweaty and nervous. Death saves alone can cause hysterics. An actual TPK? Man, that would just ruin the story. Edit: I did run Forge of Fury though and that was...

Your Most Useful and Most Used RPG Products

Before 2020, I would say the Paizo flip mats. I had so many of those and used them often.
