My thoughts on Replacing LA: The Minotaur!

This isn't a quick and dirty way to guesstimate whether or not a monster isgood for a player at a given level. This is more like, racial class design, to make a race be functionally playable, and be quite sure it's on par with other classes. If you're using pathfinder classes, everything tends...

My thoughts on Replacing LA: The Minotaur!

Instead of using LA, My thought is Making Races + Racial Classes. The Race is going to be an ECL 0 Race. The Class should be roughly on par with standard classes for power. Basic Rules: Use Upper Krust's CR System to assess Power. The Race should be between .3 and .5 in value the Class should...

Good Alternatives to Druids and Wildshaping?

Take a look at Project Phoenix' Druid. It doesn't wildshape, but has 6 or 7 other paths, like weather control, animal control, plant control, etc. It's pretty sweet. The Pathfinder polymorph and wildshaping rules make wildshape alot less broken than it was before though.

    Vampires that aren't crap!

While I understand your thoughts on a sudden power jump, Ewww. The Monster Manual vampire is actually a +5 LA IIRC, the +8 was a typo that got fixed in later printings. I'd check but all my gaming books are packed up since im still in the middle of moving. And as for the EWW, The huge LA, and...

    Character Ability Score House Rules

People make High STR characters for the damage boost, but they do tend to be more dex-focused then before, and the fighter tends to have a toss up between dex and con as their secondary ability. I've been toying withthe idea of breaking dex into Agility (reflex, speed things, initiative), and...

    Character Ability Score House Rules

Str: Never used for attack rolls. Only for damage. (Weapons may end up having minimum strength for their use though) Dex: Used to hit. All the time. Period. Con: Bleed to -Con. Bleed check replaced with a Fort-Save Int: skill Point changes Wis: Skill Point Changes Cha: Used in Will Saves...

    Vampires that aren't crap!

Ah. See, you're just seeing vampires as enemies. In which case, you have one of the older vampires, with younger minions. The issue is, we dont just play PHB races. people WANT to play vampires. so when I do monsters, I keep in mind that they should be functional as players, even if that means...

    Revised Drider: Comments Please!

*sigh* forum ate my damned post. Anyways, the long and short of it is: I agree with the template idea, but I didnt see it being applied to anythign but drow so I combined it with the drow before posting. Also, I'm not big on thr MM drow's abilities, theyre largely based on 2e drow. Instead, I...

    Vampires that aren't crap!

Hey, Yeah, Monte Cook's system is basically a way to calculate CR/LA that's like the default system. It doesnt have all the specific powers spelled out, it Has power categories with values assigned to them, and you have to put down how many abilities are in each category. They have examples of...

Fixing iterative, unarmed, and natural attacks?

They do some things that seem to greatly up the power levels of things. They have some good ways to make monsters into player characters though, better alternatives than LA and Racial HD. I personally am liking their armor system, and may use it wholesale, but it may be a bit powerful, in which...

Fixing iterative, unarmed, and natural attacks?

Hmm. Hey There Hawken. The Issue with just dropping it to one attack is that Starwars Saga has a whole system designed around everyone getting a single attack. Regular D&D doesnt assume that, so if you drop it down to a single attack, Fighters get less damage on average, and that damage will be...

Fixing iterative, unarmed, and natural attacks?

I was thinking maybe it should get to somewhere between a +4 or a +6 by level 20.

Fixing iterative, unarmed, and natural attacks?

I just found a house rule I came up with a while back. Base Armor Class Normally this is just 10. As I plan on running this campaign with low magic, and don't intend to have everyone in magic armor, I figure the character classes ACs should be a little higher. BAC: By DEX & CON Bonus (Higher...

Fixing iterative, unarmed, and natural attacks?

Our games are usually City Adventures, so whatever rules apply to players tend to apply to their opponents as well, being as the majority of those opponents are NPCs. I think the best way to address the solution, would be to lessen the Dex Penalties, possibly the way I mentioned, and then...

Fixing iterative, unarmed, and natural attacks?

Oh. I forgot all about multi-attack. Honestly, I'd rule that monk attacks work with natural attacks. If they have a slam attack, then they can use the slam damage as the starting point, and go from there. If claws use the claw damage. If they Have claws though, The'd have the ability to do...

Fixing iterative, unarmed, and natural attacks?

Oh he said it increases damage 90% of the time, but only marginally. If you read the whole thread I believe he has a big math breakdown table somewhere around page 4. Maybe it was a spreadsheet attachment. Can't remember. The Damage is comparable though, except on the ones you almost never miss...

Fixing iterative, unarmed, and natural attacks?

Well, I've seen an iterative attack fix. http://www.enworld.org/forum/general-rpg-rules-discussion/248004-iterative-attacks.html Instead of having many attacks made at different BAB Values, they all get the same BAB values. I believe the number of attacks may have been reduced to 2, and everyone...

    Vampires that aren't crap!

It's not using UK's system, it's using Monte Cook's system. I'm going to use UK's system to revise the templates. I bought 2 other d20 vampire books, and I've been disappointed by both of them. Unfortunately, I'm not going to buy another one without seeing the mechanics for the vampires first...

    Vampires that aren't crap!

I plugged in the Abilities of these vampire templates using an ECL Calculator. They're shockingly weak compared to where I initially pegged them. The Vampire Spawn Template (Which I Pegged at a +1 LA) actually came out to be slightly worse than a -1LA. I'll be making these Vampires a bit...
