Can Lawful good ever be ruthless?

Then I don't see any problem with your actions... IIRC, for a knight, any attack must be replied in kind... the knighting ceremony includes a "buffet", after the dubbing with the sword, wherein the king essentially hits you upside the head, saying "From this moment on, accept no other blow...

Surrounded by Gaming, but Not Gaming

My problem isn't finding a game (I'm on a college campus, it probably wouldn't be too hard-- and I know the local SCAdians [heck, I am one]), my problem is lack of time... Ah, the glamorous life in the arts-- all evening and weekend hours, all the time, show after show after show, never...

    Favorite Dungeon Modules

Don't know what I'd pick as favorite, but "Rana Mor" by Rich Baker (issue #86) showed up at the same time I was reading about the Dutch and English East India Companies, and sparked my current homebrew... Now if I could just get some more of it to gel, and then find some time and players...

What was the first monster you killed in D&D?

A goblin, in the Caves of Chaos. "Bree-Yark" indeed! Ba-dum-bum!

    Multiple module history melding help

Why not have them concurrent? The demon cultists were fleeing the Empire to avoid being killed in the "cleansing" and came upon the order, which sent for help, and so forth...

Northern Crown - Fantasy Adventuring in Europe's Colonization of North America

Just took a look at the flyer on the Atlas site-- Doug, did you do the maps? (When the Septentrionalis site was up, I didn't have access to a fast computer or a color printer, so I wasn't able to get the last one you did) Were there any major changes to the setting as it was written in...

Northern Crown - Fantasy Adventuring in Europe's Colonization of North America

IIRC from the old Septentrionalis info, dougmander said (via email ages ago) that descendants of the Roanoke colony were still haunting the forests and swamps of the Carolinas, but didn't say what had happened... If Naumkeag (the Witches' city) is the NC analogue to Salem, the "Witch trials"...

Tempted to Run Blue Rose backwards

Which leads to the question of whether or not a Utopia actually is attainable-- if I'm interpreting it correctly, a utopian state is either an example of a "Golden Age" that has passed (Eden before the Fall, Atlantis) or an "Ideal state" according to the philosophy of the society proposing them...

Tempted to Run Blue Rose backwards

I can't disagree with you-- I think it would be unrealistic as well... It's possible that the unsaid subtext of all the discussion is how the setting interacts with your own ideas of "what society should be." Everyone's personal "Utopia" is different-- certainly what I would want from society...

What do you look for in a Story Hour?

What do you look for in a story hour? Barsoomcore's name... ;) More pirates, please!

Tempted to Run Blue Rose backwards

Sounds like the mechanics are a hit at least-- I'm looking forward to browsing through it... One way of approaching it would be that the game doesn't have an "agenda" as much as the setting "shares the world-view of the literary genre." Now, if there was no way to use the rules outside the...

All That Glitters... - your experiences?

It's in my collection, but I never got a chance to use it... it is a nifty little adventure though... I'm a big fan of the "Subway"... (Might be time to place Port Elizabeth somewhere in my campaign world...)

After Pazuzu - what's next for the Demons?

But after Pazuzu, why go with anyone else? Just ask Linda Blair... (I would have said "Once you've had Pazuzu..." but more to the point is "Once Pazuzu's had you!")

Describe your homebrew in one sentence.

Certainly sounds like my neighborhood... I'll second that... If I ever get a chance to get my act together, it would be: "The Age of European reconnaissance, as magic is rediscovered and all those traveller's tales turn out to have some truth behind them... Or, what happens when you mix...

    Flumphs?

From the above-mentioned Monster Hunters "Ecology of..." article... I still miss this format for the Dragon "Ecology" series... and still think Richards was one of the better writers in that respect-- he must have some background in biology or some such... Wasn't too impressed with the recent...

Need advice on a desert adventure...

There's also I9: Day of Al Akbar, where instead of searching for an ancient lost tomb, the artifact(s) are hidden somewhere in a desert city... with NPC factions, sewer crawls, &c &c And the Cup and Talisman of Al Akbar... (Been sort of waiting for Quasqueton's "Have you played?" thread for...

Guards popping out for a sly [blank]?

There's a line in Kelley Armstrong's Stolen (modern era werewolves, witches &c) that runs (in paraphrase) "Even super-secret conspiracies nowadays have to deal with the non-smoking crowd..." Isn't it also one of the "Evil Overlord" items?

    Lighthearted character names?

Sure, why not-- used sparingly, they can add some fun to the table, especially if the players don't catch on for a while... then all of a sudden you have that "Wait a minute, WHAT is his name?" moment... Besides, there's a tradition, of sorts, dating back to "Gutboy Barrelhouse" and others in...
