    How often are PCs raised?

In the game I'm playing in, the raise rate is about 70% - it's around 16-17th level and raising magic is fairly easy to access. Occasionally someone will want a change of character and will refuse raising. I'm not that partial to being raised, so I'll often change. Current character might get...

    Party Let Down

It happens, sounds less bad than a few things I've done to parties in my time. (never will forget that no warning disjunction trap :o ). They'll get over it, just need to do something nice for them right now! Sounds like they could do with a real pick me up? I have to say that the fake...

    Still no overall plot...

From what haakon1 said: War! Guild wars could be fun. Perhaps the minor guy they killed could prove to be a bit of a 'Archduke Ferdinand'? The various guilds slowly fall out with each other, culminating in a continent wide thieves war. Plenty of stuff for PCs to do with a backdrop like that...

    Railroading is bad?

I love stuff like this... So easy to do and it really improves a game world. IME, it's best to think it through, just in case the PCs run off to follow things up! :D

Players: which prestige class did you actually play?

I've played both Loremaster and Archmage... Definitely intend to give Dragon Disciple a go sometime - thing that'd make for an interesting fighter type. As a GM, I've seen those 3, assasin, duelist and red wizard from players. Used quite a few of them for NPCs.

How do you determine a "Real Bad Dungeon Master"

All this and no mention of Blackleaf? Now her DM was Bad with a capital 'B'. Think delericho had it right with the story, rules and table mastery way of expressing it. I find it's worst when the players and the DM have different expectations of those things. Had one GM who could spin a great...

    Idea..... hopefully

An experiment by some other devils. They wanted to create an assasin capable of destroying other fiery based outsiders. Guess whether it worked depends on what powers he has. :D

Does setting really matter in your games? (and how to make it matter more)

Not sure I'd agree about the 'genericness' of those settings - they are good for running defauly DnD, but they can be made to feel like an interesting place to be. I think the trick is to find what makes those settings different and focus on it. For example, I noticed the hobgoblin nation in...

Does setting really matter in your games? (and how to make it matter more)

It sounds like the group I DM for is rather similar to yours. It didn't bother me for years. But eventually, I wanted to run something that felt less like jumbled up Greyhawk! :) Best success I've had so far is with tying PC background to the setting: Sat down and gave a brief explanation...

Help me pick my sorcerer/archmage's 18th level feat/spell

My 3.0 is a little rusty... so bear with me. Timestop is very unpleasant... for anyone you're fighting! Mobile prismatic sphere could be cool, but I don't think you'd be able to cast spells out of it? Might end up having limited use? Greater Spell focus: Necromancy and those save DC pumping...

What is your favorite rpg/supplement for humor?

philreed - Munchkins guide to powergaming is a fantastic book! What I was going into this thread to say. Unfortunately my copy was stolen, by a munchkin. Bah! Cool project to get at the start of your career? Paranoia rulebook was also particularly funny. Think that's made me laugh the most...

    Mech sim games.

Rackhir, Armoured Core does sound very cool. Going to try and pick up a copy for the PS2 this weekend... Thinking about it, it's often the customisation in those games that particularly amuses me. spider_minion - Would like to give RAD a go - does sound like some crazy fun - not really heard of...

    Mech sim games.

Thanks, some cool stuff here! Mechcommander 1 & 2 were good... Liked them a lot and finished both. The 2nd felt a bit unfinished, but was still fun. Unfortunately, MW5 was canned in favour of the Mechassault series. Won't be resurfacing anytime soon. :( Had a hunt for MW mods, but...

I have a character with a great backstory but no stuff.

It works just like you say. 3 lesser rods @ 2700: 1 each of electricity, cold and acid. 4 castings of flame arrow... Gives you 50 supercharged arrows which is basically 4 telekinetic hurls. Or you could just give them to a competent archer. ~9000 GP and a handful of low level spell slots is...

I have a character with a great backstory but no stuff.

I'd rely on Mage Armour at that level. Lasts 12 hours per casting, as good as some pretty expensive bracers. Costs 2 first level slots to keep it running all day. It's better than armour as it keeps incorporeal stuff away. Anyhow, I'm playing a high level sorceror currently (16th) - I really...

    Interesting comment from a player

That makes sense... Although I figure, even in modern times, people get suckered into parting with huge amounts of money in frauds? That company who 'bought the eifle tower for scrap' is a good example. (even if it's probably an urban legend?) I'd say with a good enough bluff check, the buyer...

Immersed in Lava - Have you ever seen it?

I had my PC thrown into a lava puddle at the bottom of a 20' pit. Stupid evil cleric was a good deal stronger than he looked... Very fatal and the party was a little gutted - I was carrying a good deal of the cash. :D

    Share your favorite Metaplot

My favorite published metaplot was the Shadowrun Universal Brotherhood stuff. Still gives me the creeps a little when I think about it. Actually managed to scare a few of the players... I used the sacking of Chicago as a game event the PCs were not connected with -got them panicking... fantastic...

    Interesting comment from a player

Figure if they've got the skills, then I'd let it happen... they invested in them after all and I'd say that's what the skills for... On the other hand, I'd view it as a bit of an 'open season' on the player for that sort of behaviour. :] The trick would be discovered at some point and the...

    Mech sim games.

Saw Steel Batalion - does look kinda funky, but the huge price tag of the controller has put me off... a bit too much! Picked up a copy of Heavy Gear 2 on ebay for £3... now I'll have the joys of trying to make it work on an XP machine. Should be fun! Wish someone would write a new mech game...
