    days of the week

Also, a decimal system for a week is kind of...20th (21st) century. Most cultues, across the world, had a seven day week. Because there are 7 moveable objects in the sky. Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter The earth didn't move (of course) and we couldn't any other planets. So...

Why isn't hiding your trail skill vs skill?

So, the bad guy barbarians don't want our heroes, which includes a ranger, to follow them that well. So, one of their number hangs back and the DC on the tracking increases by 5. The same number if the barbarian is 1st level or 20th level. Hide and move silently are skill vs skill. Why isn't...

Conan vs Lord of the Rings

And people like that misunderstand Conan (and Cyberpunk, BTW) Conan was the baddest. But he didn't try to be. He did the right thing. He killed the evil. Freed the girl. Made a kingdom where the commoners were better off than they were before. That sort of thing. I must have read different...

    Post your Fumble Charts here!

I meant making more attacks per round, not just attacking the tank. Trying to get that third hit in and you're reaching. You're reaching and it makes it easier for thing to go wrong. And if a rogue's, etc doing it, they aren't as experienced so they're reaching. First off, who the heck carries...

    Post your Fumble Charts here!

Well, yes. The more you do something, the more chance you have to get it wrong. But, in the same vein, a second roll for a fighter type should still hit the bad guy and, thus, no fumble. Well, no. Break out your alchemist fire and oil and innundate the tank. More later, Vahktang

Swallow a potion as a free action

Well, yes, I did want to allow it, but I guess not any more. Glad I asked. In that same vein, can I make it so taking an item out of a Heward's Handy Haversack is a move equivelent instead of a free action? Yeah, I know, you're the GM, do what you want, but what do the rest of you think...

    My Fix to Scry-Buff-Teleport

Scry's for a teleport access is not always accurate. You may go awry once of twice. Scry comes with a notice ability, I believe. Use that. That same notice ability could easily be explained for incoming teleports. If teleport comes in, BBG leaves. Contingency would work real well in this case...

    'wait, wait, attack' fighting style?

My take? Tumble on full defensive gives like +6 to AC. Combat expertise only gives +4, but lets you attack. So, tumble, dodge, move more than 10' so your opponent only gets one attack. A defender weapon also helps, it stacks with everything. Doesn't Monkey Fist allow you to use a weapon one...

    Post your Fumble Charts here!

Dang I like that one. I do a similiar thing, a reverse critical hit. A 1 means a threat. If your second roll fails to hit your opponents AC, then you fumble. You lose subsequent attacks and are -2 to AC and -2 to 'to hit'. This lasts until the character's next round, including attacks of...

Swallow a potion as a free action

Looking over the rules, they're an ounce now. (Back when I was a kid, they were like 8 oz, and one of my GM's had us chug a soda when ever we drank a potion in combat.) So, swig a cure potion at the start of the fight, and, when needed, swallow. Most GM's would consider this swallowing a free...

Craft rules make no sense at all

Ever try to cut gems? Polish up an uncut gem worth 500 gp to a rare gem worth 5000 gp? That should take years, too, according to the formula. The weight varient shouldn't come into it, either. This makes no sense. Weeks, sure, but not years. And you are supposed to multiply the result of the DC...

    Help me defend a village.

Don't trolls weigh 2-3 times what a normal person does? Count on that. Bridges that can hold a human weight, bunch of defenders at the far end, troll rushes into combat, bridge collapses. Oil and fry and have a break from subsequent trolls. More later, Vahktang

Spells with a word substituted with "cheese"

Oh gawd. I had to leave the room to laugh. Summon Cheese I-IX. That's the one that did it for me. More later, Vahktang

What D&D cliches are you sick of?

Hey! I like that one. :) Ah well. Maybe you and six buddies can be hired by a village of farmers to protect them from bandits instead. More later, Vahktang

the problem with undead (last commands, free will and low-lying prairies)

Once the creator/commander is dead, the zombies are free of control. But still mindless. So they obey the last order they got. They attack those that attack them. And may even signal the others to also attack. And if they keep digging without supports, the cavern will collapse. Maybe even upon...

    Wizard's Guild Initiation Trial

First off, what is the purpose of the guild? If it's 'keep the wizards in power', then power tests would be what is wanted. How many fireballs, how effective. If it's 'let's explore magic', then a series of questions about magic (skill rolls of knowledge arcana, spell craft, maybe of the...

I am DMing my first session...

If it was your first time GMing, I would have started with first levelers. Significantly less to keep track of and you get more complex as the players do. Well, I guess it went well. More later, Vahktang

How much grain can you get in an acre?

Thanks for the info I used lbs because the articles I was using used weight measurements. I'm guessing that bushels goes back to when the stock market still used eighths. So it seems 4 acres/person, or the 20 acre farm for a family, without taxes. Guess I have some more figuring to do. More...

How much grain can you get in an acre?

So, I read that an average U.S. farmer can get 3 tons of grain (corn, the most efficient) from the land these days. So, how much do you think an average D & D farmer can get? I'm thinking 800-1000 lbs (This would allow the yield to be doubled, then doubled again with modern methods.) An acre of...
