WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

As someone who owned Gama World, Top Secret, and Boot Hill, not to mention the Dallas role-playing game (can’t remember who published that one), what I intended to convey, Tetrasodium, was that there are unchartered areas that could be explored. One example of that is different genre RPGs that...

Great perspectives, UngeheuerLich. I like the way you emphasize innovation, which is hallmark to any great creative success. Let, me, however, respectfully provide an alternate model, given that the analogies we use help us shape the narrative of the thing to which we apply those analogies...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC to increase releases per year?

No, neither are published by Wizards of the Coast. :D

    D&D 5E (2014) What does a feylock patron want?

    These are good, Unwise!

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

Fair enough...but that is so easy to change. I simply saw that as a way of using established lore that goes way back to the Monster Manual of 1977 or earlier in order to provide an enriched imaginative experience.

D&D General Nobody likes an edition warrior.

Yup, it's about the friendship and good times for me.

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

The changing of one's mind, Mind of Tempest. In this instance, note how the Unearthed Arcana psionic subclasses that might have encroached upon a psionicist, such as the Wizard subclass, were changed. I think room was left for a future development. When Mike Mearls was discussing psionics...

I got even better news for you: the effect can be realized without spending a penny! :D

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

Aldarc, I remain optimistic that we could eventually see a Psion or Psionicist. I think the way psionics were handled in Tasha's leaves the door wide open...and my hunch is that it was done deliberately so. But, then again, I have been accused of wearing rose-colored glasses at times. I am...

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

Well, I disagree strongly that not investing vital Wizards of the Coasts resources into a 6th edition that could be backward compatible like 2nd edition AD&D "would be fatal." No way. Right now, there is a vital D&D community within the larger role-playing game community that has been brought...

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

My view is different. I think the fixation on endless editions in role-playing games exhausts the brand at a certain point. There is certainly a period where the game can be improved, but at a certain point, the lack of stability of what actually constitutes the game will catch up and undermine...

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

Agreed! To tell you the truth, it is the lore and cosmology and stories of D&D that interest me more than the crunchy game elements.

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

That's funny, it was the cosmology as described in Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters, which I picked up at the book store before 4th edition was released, that led me back to D&D after missing 3rd edition. The particular parts of the cosmology that I liked were the Shadowfell and Feywild...

WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

Agreed. I have said this here before, but the idea of going through the whole cycle of "when-will-they-update-X-in-6th-edition" for years instead of new storylines, new expansions, and even entirely new games form Wizards would be quite the downer for me. The game is great...develop it now in...

Thanks for posting this, Parmandur, it is always nice to know who is working on the books. I like listening to Wyatt speak about his designs and he seems to have a way of thinking that is clear and based on great concepts.

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Cherub

One other quick note with regard to the second sentence...I cannot speak to Islam, but in Orthodox Christianity, the cherubim are the second-to-highest rank of angels, with the seraphim being the highest rank. This mostly derives from the sixth century writings of Dionysisus the Areopagite. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Cherub

Thank you, Mike. I always love your work and this is another great entry. One note that may or may not be of interest to you: "cherubim" is actually plural of "cherub," just as "seraphim" is plural of "seraph." Cheers and keep up the great work!
