WotC D&D Gets A New Division At Hasbro

This has been my observation as well. Well said, Reynard.

WotC D&D Gets A New Division At Hasbro

Well, there is a (healthy) addictive quality to role-playing. Once one's imagination seizes on the fantastic, it is not so easy to give it up. At least, that has been my experience.

Yeah...I just had the first of the boxes...but I got a bunch of the Van Richten guides. We had a lot of fun with Ravenloft.

D&D 5E (2014) [Updated with cover!] The D&D Book Is.... Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft!

I remember there were some predictions last year that Innistrad might be covered as one of the new campaign settings; it made sense. But, speaking for myself, I am glad that they are first covering the traditional D&D setting before doing Innistrad. But, I would love to see Innistrad down the line.

There were 29 or 30 covered in 36 pages in the original campaign setting, which was 2nd edition.

D&D 5E (2014) [Updated with cover!] The D&D Book Is.... Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft!

I think your cool, RJ, keep it up. Speaking for myself, I have played with, and even sought out, players who suspend their disbelief and exhibit the ability to vicariously inhabit their characters. Therefore, in both table-top and live action role-playing games, I have played with people who...

D&D 5E (2014) [Updated with cover!] The D&D Book Is.... Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft!

I am surprised at all the interest in Dragonlance. It is a good thing, by the way, that I am surprised, I like that. I read the first two series (six books) not long after they were published in the 1980s and liked them. All the while I was playing D&D. I read the Dragonlance Campaign book in...

Then it sounds like you or your character(s) have never felt your or their most precious thing that you or they valued threatened, first with being stolen away, then with being defiled, and then with its slow and painful destruction while playing D&D or any other role-playing game.

I agree entirely, Dave. I ran an adventure where characters slipped into the Feywild without knowing it -- it was partially inspired by the film Annihilation -- and I managed to freak them out. It was a blast. The more players inhabit the mind of their characters and the less they use the game...

D&D 5E (2014) [Updated with cover!] The D&D Book Is.... Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft!

One feels horror when the most precious thing that one values is threatened, first with it being stolen away, then with it being defiled, and then with its slow and painful destruction. No parlor trick there. Unless, of course, it is the parlor that one holds most precious.

They may do that, Marc. But, Mike Mearls is quite interesting to hear discuss Greyhawk, of which he is both quite knowledgable and also a big fan. He claims that treating Greyhawk as a setting with a campaign sourcebook in the past has done a disservice to its unique aspects. He never mentioned...

I am still hoping for Spelljammer too, Happy Larry, and Mystara, with Hollow World included, would be super cool. But, as someone who used Ravenloft extensively in the 1990s, and who still has his characters visit a Domain of Dread that I created, I am interested to read this.

    D&D 5E (2014) 3 Classic Settings Coming To 5E?

Thanks for sharing that Charlaquin! I will say that the announcement about Van Richten's Guide does not surprise me at all and I am looking forward to it. Some people seem to quickly get down on Wizards of the Coast and claim that they have limited priorities or want to streamline aspects of D&D...
