New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

Agreed. And yet look what he did to Chani in Part Two and, as I emphasize, look how he concluded the film: with a shot of spurned Chani riding off on a worm to the wilderness 😥. Are you referring to your understanding of Part Two or are you anticipating what we might receive with Part Three?

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

I'm a bit of a johnny-come-lately to this conversation, although I have been reading the thread from the beginning for the past month or two. In all honesty, Ulorian, I am not sure I understand this. For the past fifty years, people have houseruled D&D and have even been encouraged to do so...

New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

I'd love to be convinced otherwise as, for the reasons I expressed in the article, I thought Dune (2021) was great and I was very much looking forward to Part Two, and I think Villeneuve demonstrates mastery of filmmaking in so many areas.

New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

Hmmm...interesting. Could you provide some quotations that substantiate this Deset? I thought I wrote a critique that said the film fails because of the incipient (and wrong) idea that Villeneuve ran with before scripting the second part and then I supporting that assertion with his reduction of...

New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

I would have loved to have experienced the ending like you. I have seen the film a couple times and I am open to an argument that would substantiate your claim. My understanding of how Villeneuve depicted Chani is based on the close-ups that depict betrayal after Atreides proposes to the Emperor...

New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

The one she had in mind, of course. :) I used the point as an example (as was drawing from Jackson's Hobbit films) in order to substantiate an idea.

New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

Interesting everyone. Thanks. I can relate to people not enjoying a particular adaption because of particular choices by the filmmaker. I know it has almost been canonized as the great superhero film, but I merely "mostly liked" Dark Knight. My sister, though, after seeing it, hated it because...

New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

Hi Stalker, thanks. Boy, I hope that is true. The reason I interpreted it as I did is that Chani leaves immediately after Atreides arranges to marry Irulan and the camera lingers on Chani's face, which (to my eyes) shows her pique at being betrayed. This is what ruined it all for me for the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Flanking no more in D&D 2024?

I am very much disappointed. Not only did we use it, but I think this may for-bode that other optional rules I use, such as alternate healing rules in order to evoke a more gritty and dangerous setting are also no longer part of the Dungeon Master's Guide. I can, of course, continue to use them...

New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

Hello everyone, I am happy to share my review of Dune: Part Two that is ultimately quite critical of the film. The film has been praised to high heaven by the press and by the fan community here...a reception for which I was well prepared given how brilliant I thought 2021's Dune was. Then I...

A Sneak Peek of the 2024 D&D Dungeon Master's Guide

No kidding. How does the company that makes these people's phones operate? Or the company that provides gasoline for their vehicles? Or the utility company that provide electricity and water? Or the local college? How does the local hospital treat its employees? These holier-than-thou keyboard...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

I agree, Parmandur, that rephrasing and revision in presentation can help. The notion of the "adventuring day" seemed so clunky and disruptive of the diagetic experience. I will not be missing it. I am hoping the revised DMG is good!

Five Big Takeaways from the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Thank you for the review. I have been wondering if the optional rules for healing, combat, and how to depict more deadly encounters will survive from the 2014 Dungeon Master's Guide. I use some of them! :)

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

My current campaign is very anthropocentric as it is set in Renaissance England. The fantastic with which characters interact is the result of (either fleeting or predictable) portals to the Feywild. Mirroring England's contention with the Spanish Empire over access and exploitation of the New...

    D&D 5E (2024) A Reintroduction to Greyhawk

Me too. However, merely use a few of the alternate rules in the (2014) DMG to create a grittier and more deadly world and D&D works just fine for sword & sorcery. I have been doing it the past couple years with a low magic Renaissance-era historical D&D campaign and there really is no problem...

    D&D 5E (2024) A Reintroduction to Greyhawk

I am surprised to read this from you, Optional. Crawford and Perkins have said again and again in interviews that they regard the "default" setting of D&D as the multiverse. Really, D&D never had a default setting and I think people return to that term because of the decision to make a "default"...

    D&D 5E (2024) A Reintroduction to Greyhawk

Optional, I think this is a nice little article and I thank you for sharing. Your thoughts on the intersection of the evolved flavor of D&D (more "superheroic," might be the most succinct way of describing it) and the bastion system are provocative. At the same time, one can hope that through...

D&D General The 2024 PHB is the best Player's Handbook ever

I agree, THEMNGMNT. For the reasons that you articulated. Given that the Player's Handbook is one third of the core rulebooks and also will be followed by campaign setting books in 2025 and beyond, I would merely add that I hope the (minimal) attention to role-playing that character's bonds...
