Making everyone a cleric (sort of)

This is a neat idea. Incantations are already perfect for those plot-train-moving 'magical rituals' that the evil cultists are using to summon That Which Lurks or whatever, and having a series of them that replicates some divine casting (or replaces it entirely) could be neat. Monte's Arcana...

    So how's Kingmaker working out?

Like pretty much anything, it can be a benefit or a hindrance, depending on the players or the medium. Players accustomed to something more linear might be lost in a sea of options, waiting for the plot-hook to jump out and drag them to the next scheduled event. I suspect that the format...

    Minor Good Gods

Some good ones here! A god or goddess of candles or lanterns could double as a psychopomp / guide for the dead, who holds the darkness at bay. At their shrines, people would light candles in remembrance of loved ones on the anniversary of their deaths (or there could just be one big festival...

Using Eberron in Other RPG Systems

    I was considering converting the races / etc. over for a Mutants & Masterminds game and came up with the following rough ideas;

    Your Favorite Monsters, And Why

Tons of the ones already mentioned, I like, but I'll stick to stuff that hasn't been mentioned yet; Hydras - twelve heads are better than one! Gnolls - complete with hyenas and hyaenadon / dire hyena flunkies Minotaurs - when Gnolls aren't scary enough Aranea - all the fun of Dopplegangers...

    So how's Kingmaker working out?

The KM PbP I'm in has so many dangling plot hooks that we have a list of stuff we need to take care of, and are sort of pinging all over the map, seeking out and taking care of pacifying various threats, etc. in addition to exploring new areas. It almost feels like having a 'quest journal' in...

Gods: DM Fluff or Player Crunch?

Bring back favored colors and favored animals as well!

Games you want to play but haven't

I would love to get to play some Trinity or Adventure! (or Aberrant, for that matter). We sat down for an Aberrant game at the gaming store, and Exalted had come out that day, and they spent the first 15 minutes talking about it, and then decided they wanted to play that instead. Signed up...

Where Did All The Girls Go?

It might be useful to look at what games like Vampire, or MMOs like Warcraft and EQ2 and whatnot, bring to the table, that attracts larger percentages of women as players. I'd be tempted to say that the non-combat focus on Vampire (while you need to fight stuff to gain levels in D&D, games...

Quest for the "perfect" all-in-one game

I'd go with GURPS 3e at one end of the complexity scale and M&M 2e at the other end. I imagine Hero system is equally flexible, but I've never played it, and it seems to be at the GURPS side of the scale.

Some idle gossip for a shallow nobleman to drop

We had a less-than-medieval-savvy player whose Halfling Thief (this was 1st edition) had a habit of biting coins to see if they were real gold (as the DM had tricked him with painted coins earlier in the game). While looting the body of someone who fairly obviously didn't have any coins, the...

Some idle gossip for a shallow nobleman to drop

"A couple of members of the House Guard were seen at Riven the Flesh-Weavers shop, along with a hooded figure that some suggest was Prince Halrun himself. Rumors are flying about what cause such a young man would have to visit that specialist." [Riven the Flesh-Weaver is a transmuter who uses...

    How popular are aberrations?

I like the notion of tweaking mind flayers to be psionically capable darkmantles that descend upon the heads of humanoids they've stunned with their psychic blasts, and then slide a tentacle into the spinal column to allow full control of the body of the host. The quasi-sentient darkmantle...

Pathfinder 1E What we want in our Golarion...

I like most of what Golarion already has done, but I do enjoy settings that have slightly more of a non-human presence. (Eberron and Kalamar's hobgoblin / goblinoid kingdoms, for instance, were very cool.) As a result, I decided that Elves and Gnomes, being more or less recent returnees, make...

Is necromancy evil or only as harmless as talking to your dead grandmother?

Word. At least, with the necromancer, I won't be there any longer when they start messing with my body!

Is necromancy evil or only as harmless as talking to your dead grandmother?

Yeah, luckily there isn't a spell that does that. You can trap a soul in a gem (Magic Jar, Soul Bind, Trap the Soul), but, barring using a Wish spell, not in an undead body.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder materials useful for those who don't play in Golarion

The concept of Traits, available as a free web download with a couple dozen examples, is a neat addition to pretty much any starting game, to customize the characters to the setting / adventure in question. The Advanced Players Guide will likely have a lot of stuff that can be taken out of...

Is necromancy evil or only as harmless as talking to your dead grandmother?

Are there any spells or effects in D&D that snuff someone's soul? A Sphere of Annhilation, perhaps? Magic Jar, Soul Bind and Trap the Soul can *imprison* a soul, but that's not the sort of necromancy this thread seems to be dealing with. While you haven't said this specific thing, these...

Is necromancy evil or only as harmless as talking to your dead grandmother?

Random things a non-evil Necromancer could do, while staying within the themes of life-energy transfers and spirit manipulation; Your best bet for an effective good necromancer is to research some necromancy spells of your own. Necromantic energies are great at killin' stuff. Some stuff...
