D&D 5E (2014) Why Has D&D, and 5e in Particular, Gone Down the Road of Ubiquitous Magic?

Pretty much this. 2nd level isn't all that far away, so even the few people that do dare to go down the adventuring path, don't need to very far before they themselves become magicals.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Has D&D, and 5e in Particular, Gone Down the Road of Ubiquitous Magic?

For some reason i can't edit my post....... but lowkey13 ninja's me!!! :D

D&D 5E (2014) Why Has D&D, and 5e in Particular, Gone Down the Road of Ubiquitous Magic?

Finally done with 22 pages of reading...... and already forgot most of the people i wanted to quote or give XP...... as well as the half a dozen points i was willing to address :D But, alas..... i'll gave to try and make a coherent block of text from the start.... The way i see it, the OP's...

D&D 5E (2014) Extra attack or defensive tactics

My concept calls for fighter 6, ranger 4, but above lvl10 at which point the concept matures, it's still open for debate. I am certain i will take the next 2 levels as a fighter for the fighter 8 ASI, but from that point on......... well that is where i'd like your advise. As unlikely as it...

D&D 5E (2014) Extra attack or defensive tactics

Hey ya all. If in 3 levels you could either get and extra attack (when you already have 2), or get the ranger's defensive tactics feature, which would you pick? And, if going for DT, what would you go for, escape the horde, multi attack defense or steel will? Also, feel free to elaborate on...

D&D 5E (2014) What Makes the Fighter Best at Fighing?

I usually don't pay attention to the comparison of real life fighting and wars with DnD (i mean, come on.... there have been countless threads on the subject and will be many more)..... but throwing real life war, boxing matches and.... first person shooters of all things in the same basket...

D&D 5E (2014) What Makes the Fighter Best at Fighing?

Bloody 9 hells! I had to unvote 2 times, before i could makeup my mind on this one. At first i was all like the classical things, extra attacks, armor proficiency...... but then as i read the comments it all began to change. Even more so as i ran simulations in my head. Armor? Will it's...

The importance of being a 20

Ah, now that makes more sense. I thought i had misread the feat. Thanks

    Ah, roger that!

The importance of being a 20

Hold on, does SA apply to only one weapon die? Not both as in the 2d6 example?

D&D 5E (2014) Heroes Feast---holy moly this is an uber spell

In 1E and 2E i think you needed to be at least level 9 before you could hire mercenaries. Is there such a cap in 5E? EDIT: or maybe this was about followers.....

    D&D 5E (2014) No Feats Allowed?

I think dipping into other classes doesn't give you proficiency in their saving throws. The only way to get a prof in a save is to take feats (resilient).

D&D 5E (2014) Heroes Feast---holy moly this is an uber spell

What i am asking is if there are actual mechanisms in the DMG for doing this. I have some of the 2E books around and in them i can find content that helps arbitrate the process (prices and wages of mercenaries i.e.). I don't have the DMG for 5E on the other hand (and as a player, it's probably a...

D&D 5E (2014) Heroes Feast---holy moly this is an uber spell

    1. At this stage my PC primary motivation is the investigation and thwarting of the cult. In the long run though.... he might consider getting into the political arena. 2. I have never played Diablo, so i'll have to take your word for it. 3. I can imagine a lot of things, but unless the DM plays...

    D&D 5E (2014) No Feats Allowed?

Yeah, that would do. But what i meant was more in line of a some sort of digital dice roller built into a world/map interface that would allow groups to both play/abstract and roll openly. With the DM of course.

D&D 5E (2014) Heroes Feast---holy moly this is an uber spell

Mostly this. If we PC does acquire estates and political power, but none of these eventually matter in any way on the actual play..... then it's just for flavor, and might as well not be there. I mean, what's stopping us from playing kings and queens from the get go? And dispense with the gold...

The importance of being a 20

No need to be sorry, i actually appreciate detailed explanations! :D And yours was not just informative, but it also dealt away with any uncertainties i might have had. EDIT: this makes SA and TWFs quite a powerful combo....

    D&D 5E (2014) No Feats Allowed?

I have only ever played table top pen and paper, but hasn't anyone ever developed a browser "shell" or anything that players and DM can use to both play the adventure and roll dice in a clear, fair and unbiased manner?

    D&D 5E (2014) No Feats Allowed?

This alone would make me wanna drop feats and stick with your game! :) Actually, most people here are point buyers. I once made a poll that showed just how much of a prevalence you people have here :D It's just that us rollers are usually more vocal :p

D&D 5E (2014) Heroes Feast---holy moly this is an uber spell

Lacking any insight into the DMG, how could this work? Are there mechanisms to invest your gold into banks and/or estates? Can we build strongholds? Are there rules for that like in 1E and 2E? How would all this affect game play?
