D&D 5E (2014) ranger getting caught all of time---What to do?

Just curious, how did the talk go?

D&D 5E (2014) Heroes Feast---holy moly this is an uber spell

My PC's entire home town was burned to the ground by dragons. He's last remaining relatives gone. He is a wanderer. A homeless adventurer who may (or may not) find some solace in tracking down the cult behind the deed. As such he may spend some gold on items and tasks that might help him with...

The importance of being a 20

How do GWFs and SA stack by RAW? I mean, what is the mechanics behind it? Do you get 2 effective re-rolls (under right conditions)?

The importance of being a 20

Originally yes, i was either going to get the 20 ASAP or "eventually". However, what my current predicament is whether i should at all (for the price of a feat). My character concept will get 6 ASIs in total by lvl20 (if he lives as long). That is one less then a pure bread fighter (because of...

D&D 5E (2014) Why no Proficiency bonus to AC?

This. Always this. The Oblivion style scaling (power creep) was also a thing. At least for me and my group.

    D&D 5E (2014) Proposal for my DM

They are the charge blindly forward types. Anything that slows down the combat encounter is not looked upon with favor. Even with "stealthy" armor i would be wise not to try stealth more then every other combat encounter. But being a fighter, it's not surprise or combat advantage that i strive...

    D&D 5E (2014) Proposal for my DM

Oh that would definitely be the most fun solution if you ask me! This is how i was originally going to role play it. But then donning and modding the chain armor on and off might get really old for the rest of the party, which would lead to me doing it less and less in order to avoid boring...

    D&D 5E (2014) Proposal for my DM

Nice, i like both answers so far. As this will be our DM's first foray into 5E, i'd like to give him as much base to make his decision on.

D&D 5E (2014) Why no Proficiency bonus to AC?

If not cumulative with armor, it might actually work....

    D&D 5E (2014) Proposal for my DM

Hey ya. I have a question that i don't know where to exactly ask, here or on some other part of EN World..... any moderators, feel free to relocate it... Our party just reached Lvl5 and we entered the City of Splendors, so we try to goad our DM to reveal some of the nice shops and artisans of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength is agile

:D :D :D What would the expected value be for 2d4 (drop 1 and 2 on first roll)? around 6? I agree. It just gives me more flavor when i say improvised  Heh....come to think of it..... if a PC half swords a great sword and make it a short spear, why not treat it like a spear and do 1d6...

D&D 5E (2014) Why no Proficiency bonus to AC?

These two basically..... Add proficiency bonus to AC and the entire BA system falls apart. Then we back on power creeping feedback loop of i get stronger they get stronger..... I'm pretty sure i don't want that in my games.

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength is agile

Depends on the weapon used and the way the player likes to role play it. Yeah, even great swords can be used as short spears (improvised weapon), i just like the idea of whacking things on the head with a blunt object. If we'd go for a conventional use of the sword to stab however (holding it by...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength is agile

Ah, then we have no quarrel at all :D In fact we are at a more of an agreement. When i DM i like ruling the use of the sword as an improvised blunt weapon (pommel or cross guard in the face) against thingies with slashing resistance with proficiency bonus on to hit values (1d4 for one handed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength is agile

Actually the latter ones were hardened, even "bulletproof". And no, even if they were technically of lower hardness then the blade, you still can't generate enough force to cut through them. http://web.ceu.hu/medstud/manual/SRM/weapons.htm...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength is agile

I was about to reply, when edhel did it better then me: Actually they won't, because there is another factor to consider and it's the tensile strength of the material you are trying to pierce. No matter how sharp your blade and how fast your swing, you will never realistically penetrate a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength is agile

True. But i also assume a given minimal level of fitness that goes with the training, so a "fighter" is by definition at least as athletic as required by his proficiency bonus and/or weapon training. I'm just adding Str requirements for effective (no penalty when using) weapon use. This i'd...

D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] The Art of War: A Fighter Guide

Ah, my bad! :p By archetypes i meant character archetypes, or better said, character concepts... You know, defender, striker, skirmisher, support.... :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength is agile

    1. Two points on this one..... a. AC does mean better armor, thicker skin, blocking attacks... but it also means reflexes, dodging, stuff that brute strength won't overcome b. No matter how hard you swing your sword or thrust your spear, it will never penetrate a good quality plate armor. Or a...
