Ranged is fine. Acid or fire damage to shut down regeneration is fine. Getting healed with Lightning damage is fine. Vulnerable to bludgeoning or radiant is fine. Weaknesses to creatures with bless is fine. High AC and low Dex saves is fine. All and more are still in the game. (Though mainly...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

It's more than that. Different base classes have different power levels, and depend on the subclass for different amounts. Not enough to tank the game, but it would make balance worse. Also, really odd for you to say use feats when you want feats to be optional.

Enough to justify killing backwards compatibility for.

Feats are a significant design space that all classes have. Subclasses are feat chains. A series of thematically linked abilities that take several levels of investment to get. And my point is. If you're going to change it, then change it all the way.

So why are Subclasses required? Feat chains take several levels to accomplish Are at standard levels. And are available to every class. Can't say I see what difference it makes what you call them.

Like Inspiring Leader, or Defensive Duelist. Magic initiative (druid), fey touched. Feats already augment classes Are at standard levels. And can be taken by anyone. I'm not saying standard subclass wouldn't work, but what does it add to make it worth changing? And if you are going to...

What's good it do to change subclass levels? Moving them up to level 3 was to nerf multiclassing, but why change it any further?

But what would that gain? Many of subclasses require base class features (i.e. Assassin improves poison sneak attack). And for the things that don't have class specific prerequisite, there are feats.

I'm playing a mostly 2024 game, with one 2014 subclass (Bladesinger), in Curse of Strahd, with no issues. As much as I would of like some deeper changes (ability score vs modifiers), the goal of backwards compatibility worked out pretty well.

That would still require weapon and armor. Though the idea of a swarm of bees casting Conjure Humanoid is fun. Then I could send the humans into traps and have them scout dangerous monsters...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 - Do magic weapons bypass resistance now?

I randomly played an Artificer, which handed out +1 magic weapon buffs. And your assuming the DM had a whole 20 levels planned out, and needs to be aware of Jackalwere before he starts a game. Is it that hard to imagine that a DM might give a magic weapon for completing the first quest, then...

There are, of course, other swarm of bees, but I may be the first sentient one. I don't know. However, I am hostile towards stupid swarms (int less than 2). So I kill them and take their nest for my children, and that is the main reason I travel. Hoping that they will grow to be intelligent...

I'm not. Your missing my argument. that's the issue. The "if" is probably 50/50. The first time you encounterrd them you didn't have a magic weapon. The first time I encountered them I did. And the same thing can be done with Silvered weapons. Or any other more interesting thing that your...

And if you had a magic weapon it wouldn't of been very interesting. For instance, my first experience with werewolves was 3.5 whej i was playing an Artificer and kept handing out +1 magic weapon buffs. Werewolves just seemed like slightly tougher goblins. No puzzles to solve. I didn't...

Either Shardmind or a Swarm of bee's. Because if there are no mechanical issues might as well be exotic. Give myself a role-playing challenge.
