D&D 5E (2024) The New Direct Damage Spells You Should Be Using.

You are correct. That's what I get for doing math while I walk. Fair. But you don't get to choose when that happens. Which would makes firebolt even better.

D&D 5E (2024) When will we get errata?

I wouldn't expect it. There where tricks in 2014 (life cleric + goodberry) that where only fixed in 2024. Though I don't know any DM that would allow it. So maybe 2034?

0.0739% Not really. It's the exact same chance as the first time you rolled it. And the d10 has the same chance as the first roll as well. So if you include crits what is more likely to deal 21+ damage? And what about 5+? I did the other math, you can so this one. (Or I'll probably circle...

5 damage *.50 = +2.5 4d8 -> 4d10 is +4. Here's the distributions if you want to look at it. https://anydice.com/program/3c8bb Or deal 30 damage to something with 3 health. Agreed.

25% chance for +5 damage = +1.25 which is less than +2 damage from 2d8 -> 2d10. That's the trade-off. Slightly less damage, but a choice of damage type. Also, Eldritch Blast does the most damage as force. So still the winner. Doesn't matter. The damage per die is SB: 5.0625 per exploding...

    D&D 5E (2024) What is compatible with 2024?

To be a bit more correct. Per WotC, all the unchanged subclass and feats are still officially supported. If it was updated, they want you to use the update.

    D&D 5E (2024) What is compatible with 2024?

There are certainly builds that broke with the changes, but much of that was intended, preventing certain combinations to improve game balance. Per WotC, all the old subclass and feats are still officially supported. Again the only subclass I'm aware of that would have issues is Shephard...

D&D 5E (2024) The New Direct Damage Spells You Should Be Using.

I agree Truestrike and Chromatic Orb are top damage spells at lower levels, and they upscale pretty well too. But Sorcerer's Burst is slightly lower damage than Firebolt or Eldritch Blast. Basically a d9 vs a d10 (5.0625 vs 5.5) Empowered or crits don't change that. It's versatile, but nothing...

    D&D 5E (2024) What is compatible with 2024?

Everything is still compatible. You can, and I have, played with 2014 and 2024 characters in the same campaign (Strahd) without issue. The key changes are Subclasses start at level 3. Wizard can take an old subclass, and get the 1 or 2 subclass stuff at level 3. (Reduces multiclass dips)...

D&D General To multiclass or not to multiclass

I'm not sure what this difference in the poll is. Getting subclass is often part of the concept (i.e. a dark knight who is fighter and dips for shadow monk). But 5.5 made multiclassing a lot more balanced with straight class, mainly with subclasses starting at 3.

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

I think this is going to be the key in the future. More so than it is now. My dog is happy, even if he can't do anything of "value". Sure. But a lot more jobs are on the chopping block too. I expect a big societal change will happen when self driving trucks roll out. That's a very large...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

Value is something we assign, yes. AI can't do that. I like creativity. Not sure why you think i don't. But here is code that makes every possible picture. Doesn't care if they are good, creative, imaginative, or whatever. But it does makes them. (P.s. don't run it as it will fill your hard...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

Exact opposite is easy to train AI to do. Just add a negative to the score. But go ahead and prove your point. Make something new from nothing. Tell me something an AI wouldn't be able to.

Feel free to give me some examples then. Preferably a millions of examples that I can train an AI with. Or even a few so I can learn.

Pretty sure no human would of made these. People judged those things as "ai fails". At it's simplest is Humans give something a score. Give AI a bunch of examples. Spend a long time calculating how to get the highest score with that data. More compute allows for more data and nuance...

If it makes you feel any better. It's still humans who decide what is "better" and what is "slop". Self driving cars will be able to drive "better" than us, but it's still up to is to tell it where to go. Just be careful what you wish for. It can be "better" at driving itself off a cliff too.

Yes. And if not today, than soon enough. And probably the most impactful. It can do it cheaper.

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

AI is a series of calculations. You could do it on a calculator. It would take millions of years to manually type it in, but you could. Heck. If you had time to wait for black holes to evaporate you could do with pen and paper. This isn't suddenly some new invention. We had AI detecting a...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

Just going to point out that spelling and grammer checker is a form of AI. So i am sure everyone already bought D&D products where AI was used. So we are already past the question of if, and are now onto the question of how much. Also, AI will get better.
