    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Starting Equipment Chose A, B or C: (A) Chain Mail, Chain is 16, 18 with a shield. Scales to Splint (17) in the first few levels. And plate (18) in tier 2. Then hope for magic items I guess. Yea, things don't keep up quite so well at high level. Especially with less and less speed...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

You must have a pretty lenient DM to give you 1510 gold (+ food and supplies) at level 1. The starting wealth charts doesn't give 1500 till level 6 or 7. I could see splint (17) happening in at level 2 campaigns, maybe 1 if the party pooled their money to help the tank. But not plate. Not...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

I don't see how you get +2AC at level 2. It's 16 AC either way. Maybe +1 if you got your allies to pitch in buying you armor. Are you thinking shields?

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Heavy armor starts at 16 AC, goes up to 18. Monk with 16 dex and 16 Wis has 16 AC, goes up to 22 with the capstone. Heavy Armor monk has equal or lower AC. So what math are you talking about?

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

I mean, kinda. If they have less than 48.5 HP they die either smite. If they have more than 58 then divine wouldn't kill them, but searing might. IMO, that's a narrow window for when divine smite works better.

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

It's at the start of their turn. It's not like they got a chance to do anything. I didn't include multiple rounds. Also, it was crap in 2014, and it's less damage at spell level 1 and 2 (assuming 1 round). Which doesn't have 5th level slots. Their warlock 4th level slots would deal a little...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Sure. Shadow works mechanically, but kind of clashes thematically. (Dark Steel? 🤔) So go ahead and make a Way of the Iron Fist.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Way of the Iron Fist has a nice ring to it. But let me see what I can do without homebrewing first. I believe the only 3 heavy armor are fighter, paladin, and cleric. Paladin with Divine Favor would work well if I went Nick + Flurry, but lack of slots wouldn't let it keep uo. Cleric can also...

Random idea i wanted to try, but is there a way to make a decent heavy armored monk?

Just realized this is an old thread.

    D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing as feats:

What happens if I take sneak attack? Or spell casting? I.e sorcerer taking bardic spell casting. Not in 2024. They spread things out much more. All subclasses are at level 3. Depends on the classes. 50/50 Range/Rogue work perfectly fine. Or Moon Druid/Monk Barbarian/Sorcerer, not so much.

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

Ok so Valor 10/Paladin 1/warlock 1 (blade) 2d6+5 +Truestrike 4d6+5 +5th level searing smite 10d6 = 66, more if they fail their save and don't die next round. Ah. Thought you ment 2nd level spells. Probably best to grab cure wounds. Bless is also good. And just to check. Level 3 divine smite...

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

No. It's bonus damage on your first turn. Changed for 2024. Advantage on initiative should also count for extra damage, as you get extra turns, but hard to say how much. And I was calculating for a straight paladin. Bard 12 would probably have Conjure Minor Elementals. So it's rogue...

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

Straight paladin has lay on hands, aura, different smites, and channel divinity. Also have more spell slots and a feat. Also, your can't use Cunning Action when you smite. Not saying it's better. But about the same. And thus Rogue/Paladin doesn't need the Con penalty. Paladin gets 22 damage...

D&D 5E (2014) How many times in an adventuring day does your party spellcaster cast a cantrip spell?

What level? Because they happen a lot at level 1. Pretty rarely at level 12.

For a little more comparison TWF Paladin 12 3d6+15+3d8+4d8 = 57 Half a point behind the paladin 1/rogue11. It's really the green flame blade that's boosting rogue damage those stack, not smite. And the lack of Nick makes it only slightly lpowerful. Edit. To be complete Assassin 12, with...

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

You're moving the goal post even more. Because you where talking about single hit nova damage, and 75 is more than 57.5. Straight sorcerer. You would need to add in bardic inspiration to really see how much damage the bard is doing. (I.e turning an allies miss into a hit). And that's...

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

Your moving the goal post a bit. But Heighted and Silvery Barbs says Disintegrate has a pretty solid chance to land. Also, Vex isn't helping. You already hit. Nick certainly helps though. But they are still not beating the highest single hit. If we are talking multi-target. Chain lighting...

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

They only do 1 hit. It needs to be big. Which has nothing to do with ability perquisites Also, the rogue deals 70.5 damage, melee, assuming 2 targets in range (57.5 without). Disintegrate is 75, ranged, more with empowered metamagic

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

I can run an 8 Str / 16 Dex paladin just fine. Especially the playtest one who gets an AC bonus when not in heavy armor. The old smite had issues, but that doesn't really have anything to do with prerequisites. Rogue / pally isn't more powerful than Valor Bard pally.
