    Agreed, but it's much worse with points. That helps. But I'd still prefer a step more. I wouldn't want to cast 10 different spells before your could cast the first one against, but some extra anti-spam thing.

    It doesn't. A 5th level spell is balanced to be a big thing for 9th level characters. And it would generally be too big for a level 5 character. But that's not a hard rule. Well you could do the second one. But I the first would make more sense.

    "Spell" is just a container. You can put whatever you want into it. It's main use is to balance and limit effects. So I don't see how renaming Fireball into a "Power" would change anything except maybe sounding a bit more universal. But please explain what you see as the difference.

    You still don't want them to be able to spend all your points and overload in the first battle any more than the paladin doing 3 smites a turn. Also, I think stunning yourself is thematic for a Psion overload.

    Which makes you want take a long rest. Stunned for a turn doesn't. Unless you gain exhaustion for a turn. That might work. Or some other short term penalty. Advantage this turn. Disadvantage next.

    My main worry about this is that you end up going nova and then sleep. ....Maybe if the downside was short, like 1 turn? Overload. Your attack deals maximum damage and then you are stunned until the end of your next turn.

    IMO, it's because you end up spamming the same thing every round. Then want to take a rest. I.e. cast fireball 4 times then sleep As much as I don’t want yet another full caster, the fact that they have different levels forces you to cast different spells.

    What if they could cast slot spells at-will? Use Magic Missile or Burning Hands as cantrips. I e. Telekinetic You can cast magic missile at-will. Your spell level increases as you gain levels on Psion. Add some points for metamagic.
