    101 Simple Epic Encounters

6? A 22 foot tall humanoid head appears, floating over the city forum. The severed head is enraged that the city residents are not having enough 'fun'. It has a powerful, long range psionic blast power (roll on 1e dmg table for effect result), as well as telekinesis and forcefield projection.

    Earth that used to be

"It is assumed that remaining Earth population is 0." You mean the exodus ships assume that? If if you mean that literally zero, why? The Firefly statement is that the "Earth got used up." If you have similar background, it is one thing to not be able to support 10 billion people, but you...

D&D 5E (2014) Wandering Monsters 6/11/13: Riddle of the Sphinx

I really like this take on sphinxes. My only concern is the concept that it doesn't matter if you defeat the sphinx in battle. Too likely to lead to the "only one way to advance plot" problem. Better might be that you get access to the thing the sphinx was guarding, but also get a curse.

Ryan Dancey: This is why there was no M:tG setting for D&D

I just wonder when Scott Rouse's confidentiality obligations will expire. I hope some day we can get this level of insight into the internal decision making process of WotC in the 4e era.

D&D 5E (2014) What are/will be the main beefs of D&D Next relative to other editions?

The main complaints about 5e will be 1. Too simple 2. Too complex 3. Too derivative of prior editions 4. Too much new stuff 5. Too anime 6. Too videogamey 7. Too wargamey 8. Too storygamey 9. Too vanilla fantasy 10. Spellcasters are too powerful 11. Spellcasters have been nerfed too...

    D&D 5E (2014) 07/08/2013 - Legends & Lore Monsters and the World of D&D

    # monsters, level of detail, price Choose two. While I'd like little more detail than what Mike has, I don't want the 2e level of detail.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D, for kids?

What I would hope for is a basic box that is aimed for 9-12 yrs, and for the full rule books to be 13+.

Star Trek Into Darkness - Spoiler Free

I'm vaguely conflicted about that. On the one hand, I liked the bridge crew. Yet it's undercut by Alice Eve's main contribution to the movie being an underwear shot. And I'm similarly conflicted in that I appreciated Scotty's comment about exploration, yet the movie itself is still 180...

Star Trek Into Darkness - Spoiler Free

Overall, I pretty much agree with RangerWickett. Strong for the first half, but act 3 just left me cold. I didn't feel insulted by the . Cumulative plot problems and gratuitousness took its toll.

UPDATE: Hasbro files lawsuit - Warner Bros. to make a D&D Movie. AICN

Fascinating. Paragraphs 6-9 deal with movie rights, and 10-12 deal with TV rights. With that structure, interpretation of the contract language looks quite clear to me. I wonder if there is some other agreement or judgment not described in the complaint.

Roleplaying since the 80s and I'm really tired!

You got the punchline wrong. It's "and boy are my arms tired."

    Wing Three

Away missions not yet fatal. Gotten up to about session 32, just I wanted to say this is still really interesting and fun reading.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is DnD next chasing a pipedream?

Don't be ridiculous. There are Internet rumors of a sequel poem in which Kublai Khan returns from the dead and is revealed to be a space alien. But the premise is so absurd, we all know no such poem could have been written. Anyhow, I don't agree with the OP premise that D&DN looks...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is DnD next chasing a pipedream?

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure-dome decree: Where Alph, the sacred river, ran Through caverns measureless to man Down to a sunless sea. There's a result of chasing a pipedream. Was it pointless?

What's a good system for fairly high-powered "supers"

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I was thinking of picking up Marvel Heroic Roleplaying anyway, so I'll look at that. Is FASERIP even still in print or legally available electronically? ICONS seems like it could be a very good fit, but Tales from the Floating Vagabond also sounds very...

What's a good system for fairly high-powered "supers"

What if Mace Windu, Iron Man, a 43rd level halfling thief, and Princess Celestia needed to team up to stop dimension-hopping daleks? I'm planning to GM a one or two-session game involving high-powered individuals from different universes. Probably anything below Silver Surfer level of power...

    Wish

I generally don't like twisting wishes; my preference is just to have the effect fail if it exceeds the power of the spell. But someone who wishes for multiple wishes deserves what they get.
