    Elysium Squad IC

Eva's youthful visage perks up considerably, her bright eyes flaring wide open with the thrill of a potential battle ahead. "Patient or not, I am just doing what Pelor asks me to do..." Spear in hand, Eva slowly moves forward, and looks ahead for evil-doers to smite. "Perhaps patience will...

    Why did you start DMing?

Sort of like becoming a goalie in hockey... all of the other kids wanted to be the hero, not the goat/donkey/whatever whipping animal.

How many D&D/d20/OGL PDF's have you bought?

Zero. I tried it out with the Exalted PDF when it was free from one of the DRM-enabled companies. I find PDFs to be nearly unreadable for something the size of Exalted. Great for printing... but PDF is a horrible format for reading large documents on a screen, IMO. Then that machine had...

Can you help with espionage and intrigue inspiration?

Well, the Karrns have a lot of messed-up crap going on... and there's stuff in Thrane... and Breland... and, well, there's a lot of messed up stuff in the Five Nations. None of it specifically requires a spymaster to involve a party. A mysterious patron for a more political/intrigue game does...

I was trying not to make it the Eva and Brother Ray show with too many posts ;) Seems like it's picking up now that the work week has started again. And I like throwing in those extras since there are things that you can do with PbP that you can't do as easily with tabletop play. Painting that...

    Elysium Squad IC

Trying to be patient in her present situation, Eva is lost in quiet conversation with something invisible on her right shoulder, "... but why did you make their ears so pointy? Did you pinch them?" However, Eva hears her name mentioned, and she is brought back to reality. "Sister Kiera, I would...

Can you help with espionage and intrigue inspiration?

Just make sure you don't piss off your players if they have violent tendencies. Railroading people into an intrigue-y game can be a bad thing since so many player abilities in 3E are slanted towards butchery and overkill... so make sure you have a couple ninja flip-out-and-butcher-everyone...

Having trouble with combat descriptions and NPC dialogue/voices - Help Wanted!

Combat descriptions... d20 can get bogged down in the dice, which is where I really liked reading the Exalted rules. It gets you a little bit past the dice. I try to think about feelings, and about the tone of what is going on. Right now, I have the Iliad on the brain... and Homer does not...

    Publishers that don't add indexes--RANT

If you write for professional reasons in industries where indices matter, then the actual creation of an index is not a problem. You simply flag text in your source files AS you are writing - long before you compile the source files as a final book... and the index is compiled during the final...

    Elysium Squad IC

"But I AM calm..." says Eva to Brother Ray. "I just want to go forth and accomplish Pelor's mission!" Eva's resplendent suit of armor clinks softly as she anxiously shifts her weight from one side to the other.

As the party decides where next to go, Eva carefully picks a spider off of one of the faces of Pelor that are engraved on both her epaulettes, and dutifully sets the spider on the ground - being careful not to crush it. For the moment, she seems to be quietly enjoying her new environment...

What *is* it about paladins that makes people nutty, anyway?

I think that a lot of the problems comes with individuals' views about morality and ethics. We are in a more morally ambiguous era, and those whose values are less subject to waffling are often seen as more unreasonable (or "evil"). We're taught today to compromise at all costs - so to be...

If Eva is not near/at the front, she will probably run past whoever is in front to get to the evil-doers! ;)

    Anime feel.....

Exactly. This is maybe the #1 reason why I would recommend Exalted even if you don't want to run that system... there's a lot of fluff, and a lot of emphasis on theme. You can learn a lot about epic, high adventure in a roleplaying game... which is something that you don't necessarily "get" out...

Games you were turned off of and why

Sort of a black reputation? Vampire?! I got tired of the brooding and angst with vampires. If I were immortal, what would I be brooding about? It's party time! But if you want to "have fun" with your immortal power, then you're not playing it right... or something. You break the...

    Elysium Squad IC

With the party headed underground and away from the Sun, Eva unties the banner from her spear and stows it in her backpack. She also readies her lantern, and takes her flint and steel from her belt pouch to light it. Once the lantern is lit, she hefts her spear on her shoulder... now with the...

Eva seems mostly lost to her own thoughts. And then, with an impatient look, she says, "To the path, then, and into Quehalost! How can we afford to wait any longer? Pelor does not send me to shrink from the face of Darkness!" Eva lifts her spear in front of her, and lets its pendant catch...

Resolving large-scale NPC conflicts in D&D

Heroes of Battle has a lot of good ideas for hero-based mass combat... like establishing certain "adventures" within the battle (cutting the enemy's supply train, siezing an important hill/bridge/piece of land) and awarding "victory points" for the players' actions. It is more in line with the...

If my posts aren't too coherent at the moment or I don't post much in the near future, it's because I have a 100 degree temperature and it's getting close to the end of my quarter at school.

Okay, no problem there. Anyway, Eva doesn't know a lot of things in general, so that's okay. Maybe she will be foolishly clever at times, but mostly she will be growing into her role rather than starting off as a grizzled veteran evil-smiting machine. And I definitely left Eva's "public"...
