Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

Actually, you do. Compare Reign of Terror(fighter 25) with Ghost on the Wind(rogue 25). Both of them say 6[W] damage, but the fighter can use a two-handed weapon, while the rogue is restricted to light blades. Say the rogue has a 1d8 weapon and the fighter's using a 2d6 weapon. For the...

Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

What keeps the enemies from fleeing around a corner and setting up an ambush while the PC's are waiting for them to come back to the zone of death? Cloudkill prevents that by letting the wizard sweep the zone into the new combat site. Evard's prevents that by keeping the enemy from making a...

    Multi-classing: thrill me

How about a fighter multiclassing into wizard to pick up Scorching Burst or Thunderwave as an encounter power? Who cares about hitting, it lets you mark all enemies in a 3x3 as an extra encounter ability.

Feeling short changed by 4th Ed.

I intend to pick it up as soon as I become a paragon. Two other things unrelated to each other: 1)I like Dragonborn, Warlords, Tieflings, and Warlocks. Is this something I should be ashamed of? A number of posters are acting like it is, and I want to know whether I should avoid telling my...

    Multiclassing Feats & Powers

The limiting factor really needs to kick in well before the 17th power. A wizard who has only fighter powers is unbalanced. A fighter who has only wizard powers is unbalanced. The designers have gone to great lengths to make sure characters are roughly balanced, and part of that is limiting...

    Sleep vs. Extented Rest

If a fighter has gone through four fights(for two milestones to get your second and third action points), hasn't spent any action points, hasn't spent any of their dailies, and has only used one or two healing surges, than either the fighter or the DM is not doing their job. If the fights are...

    Sleep vs. Extented Rest

I see two things you might be missing. 1)An extended rest is the only way to recover your healing surges. 2)You can only spend one action point per encounter. While I don't see anything to prevent you from doing this to save your action points, I don't really see the benefits as being worth it.

Feeling short changed by 4th Ed.

3E - Feeling short changed by 3rd Ed. After reading the 3rd Ed PHB it occurs to me that its not really a complete version of D&D the way 4th Ed was. 4th Ed had more races, tons of exploits and just seemed like a more complete rule set. By comparison, the 3rd ed. PHB deliberately does not...

Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

Firestorm is the best 19th level area damage spell. But let's compare it to the two level 19 zones wizards can produce, Evard's Black Tentacles and Cloudkill. Size/range: Firestorm is a burst 5 within 10, Evard's is a burst 4 within 10, and Cloudkill is a burst 5 within 20. Cloudkill wins...

    Sell me on Half-Elves

Selling points for the half-elf: 1. Racial bonus to con. Good for every character, particularly good for fighters, paladins, and warlocks. 2. Racial bonus to cha. Good for clerics, paladins, rogues, warlocks, and warlords. Note that a half-elf has an advantage over humans for paladins and...

The command prayer rubs me the wrong way sometimes

Do you know something I don't? I wasn't aware that unconsciousness caused deafness. I have been pulled out of an unconscious state by noises, on multiple occasions. Admittedly, I've never been beaten into that state, so I don't know if that affects things.

    Multiclassing Feats & Powers

I understand. I find that it helps me to have a copy of the PHB on hand while posting, and confirming any claims I'm going to make. Not only does it keep me accurate, but flipping through the PHB relaxes me, so I'm less likely to post upset. If he can pick up spells from other wizards, what's...

    No Random treasure !?!?...

I've figured out why there are no random magic item tables. I'd like to thank pr1 for providing the major hint, quoted here: After I had that rattling around in my brain for a while, I was reminded of the following statement: It is a general design principle being cited as to the reason that...

    No Random treasure !?!?...

Nope. But you see, on my wishlist I'm putting Terror Longsword, not +1 Terror Longsword, +2 Terror Longsword, +3 Terror Longsword, etc. My wishlist is the list of items I'd like to end up with, not every item I ever expect my character to hold. With Terror Longsword on my wishlist, I'd be...

Bracers of Mighty Striking: Near Useless?

Gauntlets of destruction are indeed mighty. But when I'm jingling 520gp in my pocket and considering spending it on a pair of bracers of mighty striking, the gauntlets of destruction aren't really an option.

    No Random treasure !?!?...

Okay, a couple things that I think need to be pointed out. With weapon choice mattering as much as it does in 4th edition, especially for fighters, punishing a character for choosing an uncommon weapon(by not providing that weapon as treasure moderately often) is pretty harsh. It also cuts...

Bracers of Mighty Striking: Near Useless?

I might be missing an item, but I sure don't see anything a character could spend the 520 gold the bracers cost on that provides a bigger benefit on a regular basis. Any level 1 or 2 member of the big three(weapon/implement, armor, neck item) would be more valuable, of course, but I assume that...

    Multiclassing Feats & Powers

I don't understand. Can you provide an example of a rogue power that has sneak attack as a prerequisite? You are welcome to house rule things however you want. According to the PHB, however, you cannot select powers from your second class instead of your first class when gaining a level that...

Bracers of Mighty Striking: Near Useless?

There are 3 arms slot items that are not shields. Bracers of Defense are an okay choice for anybody who ever gets hit by a melee attack. Bracers of Mighty Striking are good for any character who makes a lot of melee basic attacks. Bracers of the Perfect Shot are good for any character who makes...

    Level 5 Warlord Dailies

    Yup, can't argue with that.
