Why does epic level play entail treating death as a "speed bump"?

Well -- modern fantasy brings us "Neo" who self-rezzes. 3.5 had True Resurrection (speedbump you say? What bump?) Mythologically, there is the phoenix, and the many many men and demi-gods that walked / fought / tricked their way out of hades. However -- I think that we've heard that the...

Are you going to buy an EXTRA copy of the PHB?

Dude.. seriously? Do you read how mean that sounds? The guy who runs our game wants to play 4e, but screw him -- he has to buy everything and make all the investments of time and money before we'll give it a chance. I feel bad for your DM man.

Are you going to buy an EXTRA copy of the PHB?

Ditto, almost exactly. I also judge at conventions from time to time, where (unfortunately) PHBs have a habit of walking away. If we have a back-up copy I get less ragey.

D&D 4E My First 4E Game: Disappointing. Yours? (UPDATED with player feedback)

Given the number of posts I've seen -- and my experience trying to run with the 4e-lite, I don't know that I'd agree. My players that were interested, but not following 4e were frustrated with the form and format of the rules. The questions I could not answer bugged the hell out of them. They...

D&D 4E My First 4E Game: Disappointing. Yours? (UPDATED with player feedback)

I almost always have a laptop at the table. I use it to keep my sheets on, and to browse when I shouldn't be running over other people's scenes. Patience comes hard to some of us -- and the distraction is useful.

    Sequels to Successes

I think that it's both the "brand pull" and the sad fact that in a limited market the big fish wins. We will switch to 4e because our friends play 4e, because when we look for new groups, those groups will play 4e, because every time it comes time to start a new campaign someone will say "4e?"...

    How long after June 6?

I would run it on the 6th if my players lived near me. Whenever everyone has their PC drafted and we can all be online. (ah internets you save my life)

    What are Minions anyway?

They're the many people in every battle doomed to die without contributing anything. Maybe they're unlucky, maybe they're untrained, ore inconsequential, but essentially they're mooks. They're the tons of mooks that get cut down in enter the dragon, or the gang-bangers that get blown away in a...

IF a PDFs of the 3 core books were leaked, would you:

You know -- I've seen that comment alot recently. Why not open a copy of the book the next time you happen to be in a brick and mortar. I think I would rather run out to the closest boarders, snag the latest set of dnd books off the shelf, grab a coffee and make an afternoon of perusing free...

    WoW 2004=D&D 1980-ish

There are windmills here!!! Where? /tilt/ :D Seriously though, the question that equates the two in spirit really misses the point. They're both games so, yes, they may appeal to a similar niche market. But World of Warcraft is the kind of game that draws people in. It's easy to pick up --...

    WoW 2004=D&D 1980-ish

I play WoW. I have played DnD for the past decade and more. Almost every single one of my friends plays WoW or DnD, or more often, both. Moreover, WoW is a great gateway drug for DnD. My wife started out hating all things dnd, all things gaming. I got her hooked on WoW.. now she can't wait for...

    D&D 3.x WotC Rejecting 3.5 Writers?

Crazy idea -- maybe they just decided not to employ him anymore for a number of reasons which might include Paizo's increasingly hostile treatment of WotC?

    DDI vs WoW

In short -- because like so many DnD *EDIT* SOFTWARE *EDIT* products before this one - it suffers from horrendous design flaws. For example -- they want you to buy minis and maps from them, so the game HAS to be hosted on their servers. That means alot of bandwidth and hardware -- which means it...

Jack's of all trades classes: extinct? and "to bard or not to bard?"

I don't think that will matter as much anymore. a) they've changed the assumption to one beasties worth of xp per PC in each encounter, building encounters by spending xp to buy beasties to throw at the PCs. Buy may be an objectionable term to some -- but there it is -- you're making a dnd mini...
