    Longsword PCs

Maybe 20% of the time, and that I think I'm being lenient. Our current group dynamic uses a rapier, spear, longspear/morningstar, dwarven waraxe and dagger. The longsword is most often used by a non-martial elf or a paladin using a shield.

Undead: is the person's soul trapped?

Here's my thoughts on this subject. First off each undead type should be treated differently on whether the souls still in them or not. I have always had a problem that a LG paladin will rise as a ghoul with his soul stuck in the corpse, I mean come on how could a soul of such radiant goodness...

    Drinking and gaming?

Its rare, but occasionally we have a beer around the table. Most of those I game with don't really drink much, but I don't have a problem with the consumption of alcohol around the table, and those I game with don't have a problem with it.

Which is REALLY the best alignment?

Neutral good for one basic reason, being heroic, which D&D is all about, is best for the good characters. Tagging the neutral means for the most part, those of this alignment are law-abiding citizens who distaste of too much order or too much chaos. To this end a neutral good character is more...

You've bought a new book now what do you do?

As a player. I usually go to the DM and ask if I can use the new material. I will even let the DM borrow my book if he wants to. I am fully prepared for him to say no. As a DM. I incorporate where it fits. For the players I make it available, to the point that if they see something they like...

Making my game more "rogue friendly"

The skill-monkey rogue is great to have in a nonstandard battleground. Make the battleground hazardous without the proper skill checks, maybe loaded with loose gravel or an icy surface requiring balance (or Dex) checks, those that fail loose their Dex bonus or fall down, therefore incuring the...

More the merrier? I don't think so.

Too many at the table, yeah that could be a problem. The most I've DMed is 8 people, and I had lots of problems keeping them all in the game, the same with 7 people at the table. For me the number I want around the table is 5, with 5 I usually can have everybody having a good time with no...

How much risk do parties enjoy?

Me personally I like a few deaths now and again. When I DM I usually have a possible TPK encounter now and again (sometimes my players believe I have one every session). But usually its the way the dice roll that determine the death rate. Most of my players hate it when I try and keep a...

    Stat yourself... Off topic?? dunno.

Why not Str 14 - I'm pretty strong, especially my lower body, bench around 180 lbs. Can do push-ups and sit-ups 'til I'm blue in the face. Anything dealing with the usage of my legs set the weight at a minimum of 250 lbs (calfs, quads, gluts, take your pick) Dex 11 - I'm not very coordinated...

Define Core Only for your game

THough I'll never say core only, I will say say you can only use whats in the PH and DMG, races, classes, feats, skills, equipment, and dieties. Just as written in the PH and DMG. Which I guess means core only. But as the DM, I always reserve the right to use whatever I want. As to players not...

    How did you start?

I guess I could say computer related games, they were the old gold box games put out by SSI. But truth, I'd seen advertisements in old comic books, and I paged through a few in the local Half Price Books, long before those games came out. Another influence, wierdly enough, was a strict woman in...

Is mapping a lost art with adventurers?

Yes and No. If the players believe the dungeon's going to be complicated they/we might do a simple line drawing showing overall layout, with a box for a room, a line for a hallway, just to keep our bearings, with a couple of labels to keep tabs on whats what. The biggest problem with mapping is...

    And then suddenly...

You know what, I don't believe I've ever said suddenly. The worst I've done is probably, "Here it comes...". And I can only remember one time doing that.

    The RPG Class Test

How did this happen: Assassin 66% Combativeness, 53% Sneakiness, 44% Intellect, 44% Spirituality Violent and deceptive: You are an Assassin. Score! You have a prestige class. A prestige class can only be taken after you've fulfilled certain requirements. This may mean that you're an...

Do You Prefer to Play One of the Four Primary Base Classes (Clr, Ftr, Rog, Wiz)?

No, for starters I absolutly hate the cleric, and would never intentionally play one. Of the four only the Wizard and Rogue would I play exclusively. The fighter I usually take as an extra class to gain a couple of feats along the way.

    Party NPCs

I once used party NPCs, but after being in one campaign where the DM PC became the dominant PC, because thats what the DM wanted, I quit doing it. Now, I'll have a NPC in a group for a short period of time, example acting as a guide. But when it comes down the nitty gritty, I'd rather have the...

Do You Prefer to Play a Human PC When RPGing?

Nope, since 3.X came out I've played a dwarf, half-elf, half-orc, and a gnome. I have no preference to what race I play (though I sometimes lean towards the gnome).

Yep, My brother, and a couple of friends.

In RPGs, Should PCs Be Better Than NPCs By Default?

No I don't believe so. NPCs should rank where they sit in society. A common soldier, yeah he should be weaker than the PCs. An Elite soldier, however should be about the same power level as the PCs, i.e. using a 28 pt. build like the PCs just with not as good equipment. Now for head honchoes...
