    Question about Line of Effect

IMO, his spell would affect the passageway until the actual line of effect is blocked. Note that line of effect is not blocked by darkness, so the spell should keep affecting the passageway until the passageway itself is blocked (by a wall, door, wall of force, etc.) or it reaches its maximum...

    Magic Item Power Limits

If you look at the charts closely, you will notice that some are +x, while others simply add to the price of the weapon in gold pieces. There is still a +10 maximum for purposes of determining market value and an actual enhancement bonus maximum of +5.

Major magic or minor magic items?

Both as a player and a DM I prefer less and better magic items. I prefer that the character's identity, power, and personality develops from his background, experience, feat and skill choices, as well as his equipment and/or magic items, not just the magic items. YMMV.

LOL Im sure this has been posted here before but check this link out...

As a Christian, I am offended by tracts such as this. To mingle Jesus and holy scripture with rediculous proclamations about D&D or rock music is beyond belief. I hope most gamers understand that this is not the doctrine of most Christian churches.

    Can't charge invisible opponents?

I sent a question to the sage today concerning this question. I will post any response he sends back to me. Or, perhaps it will be in the next issue of Dragon. :)

The Band of Four (The Village of Oester)

Very interesting development. Was this the player's idea? And where did you get the new race? Also, if you have the time, a character update for the PC's would be great. What level are they now? What has changed? Thanks, and keep up the good work.

    Flying Mount and Flyby Attack

AFAIK, Fly-by Attack is for the flying mount, and Ride-by Attack is for the rider.

    Can't charge invisible opponents?

After considering PH, page 139, I think I will have to agree with you, Christian, and rescind my former comments, at least until the sage speaks to the issue. And don't you think "perverse" is a bit harsh?

    Quick Question about stacking levels

I am fairly certain that the 3e FAQ clarified this by saying that the term "level" used in the class descriptions meant "class level" not "character level."

    Can't charge invisible opponents?

Read the glossary definition of line of sight in the PH. It says that if you cannot see your target (because he is invisible or you are blind, for example) you do not have line of sight even if you can draw the unblocked imaginary line. Then read the charge rule that you cannot charge if you...

    Vicious Weapons and "Disruptive" Energy

I take it to mean, not a new type of energy such as acid or fire, but simply as a descriptive adjective describing the unnamed energy. It is not negative energy or it would say so (and be very beneficial to undead users). It simply causes a disruptive energy of some sort to damage both target...

    Can't charge invisible opponents?

You cannot attack a square. "Square" is a metagame term that helps us run a battle on a battlemat or grid. You attack a creature. When a creature is invisible, you may attack where you think he is, and this is subject to a 50% miss chance. What you cannot do according to the RAW is charge an...

Sage advice and some recent topics

Thanks James. I read the Sunder questions with interest. You can sunder a magical weapon with a normal weapon, it just is unlikely due to the increased amount of hardness and hit points of the magical weapon. More reason to fear giants.

    Can't charge invisible opponents?

I understand the miss chance when you try to hit an invisible opponent. However, you cannot charge a square. You charge creatures. If you cannot see a creature, you cannot charge it. We use squares on the grid to establish line of sight and line of effect, but this line of sight and effect...

    Breath Weapon recharging

I also read it as "1" means "every round." The language in the MM says that it cannot breathe again until 1d4 rounds later. If you replace the "1d4" with "1," it says the dragon cannot breath again until 1 round later, which is the very next round.

    Can't charge invisible opponents?

Not according to the RAW. You cannot charge if you don't have line of sight. You don't have line of sight to an invisible target. Therefore, you cannot charge an invisible target.

    Surprise round question

This is not correct. Since the PC and his entire party were aware of the goblins, they have surprise. Each member of the party is entitled to a standard action. Also, you can never use a Delay action to go at the same time as another character. If you delay, you go immediately after someone...

    Can't charge invisible opponents?

Invisibility gives you 100% concealment, thereby negating line of sight. This is why you cannot target an invisible creature with Magic Missile, for example.

    Surprise round question

As long as the goblins did not see you opening or closing the door or hear you or your party preparing your ambush (the DM rolls the appropriate Spot and Listen checks), they are unaware of your party and surprised. Each of you should get a standard action before initiative is determined, not...

    Huge Monk Unarmed damage

No, it's not right. Somehow, you have misread the chart in the DMG, page 28. Here is the correct progression. Remember, Huge is a two step increase from Medium damage. Your 3d8 in question seems to be based on the Small damage of 1d10. Levels 1-3: 2d6 Levels 4-7: 3d6 Levels 8-11: 3d8...
