I don't see any reason not to make your player very happy. The save DC's for the death effect and especially the stun effect are are not so high that the giants will be failing them regularly. Remember that the HoT is Large, so the dwarf gets a -2 penalty on his attack rolls.

The DC should be 0, the same as people talking. The last sentence of the Listen skill in the PH says sleepers may make a Listen check at a -10 penalty and awaken with a successful check. Don't forget to add the +1 per 10 feet of distance to the DC.
