RPG Evolution: Will LEGO Ever Replace Miniatures?

What about the scale? I thought most McFarlane toys were 4 or 5 inches tall.

RPG Evolution: Will LEGO Ever Replace Miniatures?

Lego's have the barrier of being expensive...even on the secondary market. There are some great things about Legos though: 1) The sets have considerable variety-from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and weird sewers, to LoTR Fantasy, and even some underwater scapes. 2) If the prices are high on the...

    The Geekification of Everything?

Somewhat related to your point: on the blog Retromania there was an article about why the prices of used guitars are so high and the conclusion was that the technology hadn't made any advance. The end result was basically making the same sound for years and years. Another book called "Electric...

Rage of Demons: "D&D On Hard Mode"

Here's some of the numbers in Designers and Dragons the 80s by Shannon Applecline: "The scattered information we have on print runs holds up the idea of role- playing hitting its zenith in the ’80s. After starting out with a paid circulation of 20,155 copies in October 1980, Dragon magazine’s...

    D&D 5E (2014) Whimsy in your game?

Peter Cook in Bedazzled (1967) seems like the ultimate "Dark Whimsy". Now that I've thought of this-if this mod is going to do Dark Whimsy right its going to need some musical numbers.

[August 2015] What Are You Reading?

Reading Last Call by Tim Powers. I'm 50 pages in and still confused no the characters and their role. I guess it will all unfold in the future. After watching "Black Sails" I decided to reread Thieves World (after 20 years or so). The first Thieves World is still pretty good.

    D&D 5E (2014) Whimsy in your game?

What is too much whimsy? For example, what if the mind flayer is really trying to sell you movie rights and licensing and not interested in fighting? Illithid the flamethrower, kids love that one-last but not least, illithid the doll (or painted mini). Demogorgon tries to get you to buy into...

D&D 5E (2014) CRs and what is going on?

You could add terrain effects. The balor fights in a room with a super-heated iron floor that does 3d6 fire damage to anyone standing on it, per turn. Oh and the room is covered in magical darkness.

    D&D 5E (2014) Observations

Thanks for Rambling Capn! Well, at least in this edition the barbarian isn't a barbarian/beastmaster hitting you big and then having a bear hit you big right after.
