    Negative level clarification question

Cool-- thank-you for your replies, we did actually rule it that way, I just wanted to double-check. Now we just have to see if that 3rd-lvl Wizard can make a Fort save in 24 hours...

    Negative level clarification question

Ran into some undead yesterday, just wanted to ask about a negative level issue-- in the PHB and the SRD it states "-1 effective level (whenever the creature’s level is used in a die roll or calculation, reduce it by one for each negative level)." So what if, for example, a 3rd-level mage...

Rogues and traps... Searching and Disarming...

MichaelK, I would have to say that I do agree with your point-of-view on the matter, logically it makes sense. The others seem to agree on this as well-- that is how I ended up ruling it, but it was a circumstance that quite honestly hadn't come up before (before that, all the traps seemed to...

Rogues and traps... Searching and Disarming...

OK, I looked around and didn't see this particular topic here so I apologize if it has already been covered. I want to clarify Detecting Traps, just to make sure it's supposed to work the way our group thinks it does. First of all, a Rogue does have the option to Take 20 on his Search skill...

Variant Class Features question-- Something for Nothing??

Juuuust to clarify; do you mean the examples themselves are poor or the the examples involve poorly thought-out variant abilities from the sources?? I am intrigued by the house-rule that "no benefits can be gained until a loss occurs"-- are there any others out there that concur or disagree...

Variant Class Features question-- Something for Nothing??

Question about Variant Class Features-- seems like a lot of material that came out toward the "end" of 3.5 introduced Variant Class Features. These were for the most part pretty cool, i.e. for someone who likes to play a Druid but doesn't want anything to do with an animal companion, you have a...

What's a good adventure an inexperienced group at 5th level?

Red Hand of Doom is pretty cool, weird in a few parts, but also long. If you are looking for shorter adventures, I could suggest Fane of the Drow (which has a bunch of mini-adventures starting at EL6), or maybe Expedition to Undermountain (again, a bunch of mini-adventures, mostly...

Older Realms adventures questions, coming up with CR's

Thanks for your suggestions, I do appreciate the thoughts... Yeah, these are some pretty tough adventures (both are 1st ed.) as such they are a little harder to convert over to 3.5. Like your water weird example, sometimes straight conversions lead to either way too tough or way too easy...

Great Combo but does it stand ?

Hmmm... the SRD says "a globe of shimering force" I would say that it is see-through, it doesn't specify opaque or providing concealment... Gaze Attacks also do not mention line of effect, you are correct there... hmmm.... interesting. Is anyone else now thinking of playing a Medusa...

Great Combo but does it stand ?

so, just to clarify; a gaze attack needs line of effect?? And even though you can see through a Resilient Sphere it blocks that?

Items in shop; everything or a limited selection?

Where does it say this? That players are allowed to buy anything under the gp limit? if it's there, I certainly must have missed it... Well, when rolling random magic items for determining treasure it is random, and not necessarily logical... maybe purposefully changing a few results to make...

    natural attacks and touch spells

Hey, that's why we're all here!! I just wanted to be clear, what confused me a bit was the recent thread on if you can combine flurry of blows with natural attacks or if they stack or not, or if you have to choose between one or the other...

Opinions about Raise Dead, Resurrection, Reincarnation...

I kinda tend to agree with you there-- the visual of a PC group storming through the doors of a temple mid-service with the mangled, bloody, burned and eviscerated body of their comrade and throwing a heap of treasure on the ground and expecting a raise dead or resurrection is in my opinion...

Great Combo but does it stand ?

What about gaze attacks?? Say you have a medusa trapped in the sphere, could she affect someone with her gaze?? And it is possible to teleport or dimension door out of one, right??

Items in shop; everything or a limited selection?

I disagree, it really isn't-- in-character vs. out-of-character knowledge I feel is easily seperated. Knowledge skills go a long way! I don't totally disagree though, I do think it makes total sense to have the items "spread out" over several different shops-- and also for instance that simple...

Items in shop; everything or a limited selection?

I think comparing "gp" to "xp" is really apples and oranges. First of all, I DO NOT want to get into the whole "leveling" discussion-- some groups have mandatory training, some groups do it automatically, etc. etc.-- NOT the point on this thread. Having said that, "leveling" and "getting...

Opinions about Raise Dead, Resurrection, Reincarnation...

Totally agree with you there-- not too long ago we had a PC who died withing the first 15-20 minutes of the session! That bites for the player... Anyways, I've tried to prevent that situation in my campaign by having each player have a fully-prepared "back-up" PC that knows the party and is...

Opinions about Raise Dead, Resurrection, Reincarnation...

You do bring up a good point, Stream-- I know not all gaming groups are huge on this, but I am a fan of continuity as well. It's conducive to role-playing. And it does have the potential to ruin a campaign if 3/4 of the party dies halfway through a big adventure, now it's up to the survivors...

Items in shop; everything or a limited selection?

Wow, harsh!! Well maybe throw 'em a bone every once in a while! Especially in Planescape!! But I TOTALLY agree with you about PC's not necessarily knowing about items... A Power Gamer I used to game with would ALWAYS try to justify why his PC would order VERY specific items, like an "acid bow"...

Opinions about Raise Dead, Resurrection, Reincarnation...

OK, I would like to get a thread going with some opinions about how gaming groups handle the particular issue of bringing the dead back to life. If this topic has been extensively discussed recently, someone please direct to me to that thread-- I don't think this has been a recent topic. I...
