D&D 5E (2014) European and Asian Armour Equivalents

Brig certainly does provide more protection, but isn't it also only commonly found as a sleeveless jack, and so fails to provide the coverage of other armours (unless you wear mail sleeves and leggings or plate pauldrons, cannons, cuisse and greaves with it, in which case I'd say the combination...

D&D 5E (2014) European and Asian Armour Equivalents

Even if I was going to include bezainted armour (which I wouldn't because of the dates I set) I'd still be more inclined to categorise it under Ring Mail than Studded Leather. I was also under the impression that the idea of studded leather primarily came from visual misinterpretation of...

So, Harness (Jousting Plate). Incredibly tough, heavy, but incredibly cumbersome dismounted. AC 20 but Disadvantage on dismounted actions and combat (including the normal Stealth). Could weigh up to 100 lbs. Req: Str 15 (like normal plate as horse bears the real burden).

D&D 5E (2014) European and Asian Armour Equivalents

Following on from my threads on Weapon Equivalents for Historical Europe (circa. 800-1599AD) and Asia (specif. China and Japan), I'm starting this thread for my work in process on the armour equivalents. Gygax included a lot of items that simply didn't really exist (e.g. studded leather), were...

    D&D 5E (2014) Glaive vs. Halberd - what's the difference?

Did someone mention weapon nerds and weapon equivalents? ;) Asian Weapon Equivalents (specifically Chinese and Japanese). Historical European Weapon Equivalents from about 800-1599AD. Altogether, well over 150 weapons covered by the existing list in the PHB, and only around 10 new weapons...

True sabres didn't come about until the 1600s which is after the 1599 cut-off point I set myself. They certainly would fit under the Scimitar category though.

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock: Great Old One Patron Familiar

I am the DM, and I will be doing something different (namely creating said rat-thing familiar, most likely). ;) I was just curious what other folks had already done. :)

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock: Great Old One Patron Familiar

One of the small things that irks me in 5e is the cop-out suggestion that a warlock of a Great Old One can take any of the suggested critters as a familiar because GOOs are inscrutable. It's one of the few things that really had me shaking my head. I mean, they could've created a miniature...

D&D 5E (2014) Non fantasy setting book or books for 5th edition

The wastelands would be riddled with monsters (caused by magical fallout from the war) and ruins, roving gangs of orc bikers, goblinoid hijackers, etc. And that most precious resource, magic, is constantly sought, to be broken down and harnessed to power the corroding remains of magitech.

And you just know you'd need an NPC dwarf riding the shoulders of a particularly stupid Ogre! "Who runs Barter Town? MASTER BLASTER!"

    D&D 5E (2014) Historical European Weapon Equivalents

Thank you, and yes, it can be a devil to fit some weapons into D&D and its simplification properly. So many weapons could be used to inflict varied types of damage.

    D&D 5E (2014) Historical European Weapon Equivalents

I included it for clarity as a number of folks were asking for the bastard sword when 5e released. :) To be honest, many of the terms we use for specific weapons and categorisation thereof are modern inventions.
