    D&D 5E (2014) Historical European Weapon Equivalents

Look under Pike (the catch-all long spear-like polearm entry). :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Historical European Weapon Equivalents

You're welcome. It turned up a couple weapons I wasn't aware of (such as the sabre-like Italian storta): , and was also great for showcasing little-known weapons such as the German grosse messer (one of my favourites, and a wonderful alternative to typical long swords and bastard...

    D&D 5E (2014) Historical European Weapon Equivalents

So, following the Asian Weapon Equivalents I posted before (covering Chinese and Japanese equivalents to the entries in the PHB), I decided to do the same for historical arms of the Middle Ages to Renaissance (mostly the period 800CE-1599CE). There were a few exceptions (for example, darts...

Let's Make: Kenku as a race

Nice work, matey. Not exactly how I'd do it (though to be honest, little is), but bloody good nonetheless. :) I'm going to dig out the Dragon article on Kenku ecology to see if it yields more insight.

    D&D 5E (2014) Asian Monk Weapon Equivalents

Okay, made the final change, revising the name of the Dai Tsuchi (apparently a term made up for L5R) to the more accurate Otsuchi. And with that, the Asian Weapon Equivalencies are finished. Over 100 weapon equivalencies and only a handful of new weapons needed to really round things out. May...

Let's Make: Kenku as a race

Kenku PCs. Here is what we can glean from the MM: Mostly CN Medium size, speed 30 ft. Dex +2 Int +1 Lang: Auran, Common Speechless: Cannot speak: uses mimicry/sounds Mimicry: can mimic any sounds it has heard, including voices. Creature that hears the sounds can tell they are imitations with a...

Let's Make: Svirfneblin as a Race

They get the following in the MM: At will: nondetection (self only) 1/day each: blindness/deafness, blur, disguise self Following the lead on how the drow get their spell-like abilities as they level, the deep gnome would get: 3rd level: Disguise Self 1/day 5th level: Blindness/Deafness and...

Let's Make: Svirfneblin as a Race

Language-wise we give them Gnomish, Terran, and Undercommon. Darkvision is extended to 120 ft. ala the Drow. They have Stone Camouflage which gives them Advantage on Dex (Stealth) checks in rocky surrounds. The real issue now is that they also get several spell-like abilities just like drow...

Let's Make: Svirfneblin as a Race

So, despite drow being a racial option, deep gnomes weren't included. While I can understand the choice based on Drizzt and drow fandom, I've always had a soft spot for the svirfneblin. So, time to stat 'em up as a Gnome subrace. Let's make 'em. Looking at the MM you find the...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

That's one area we'd disagree then. We're playing games, after all; if someone wouldn't enjoy X game at all then actually having them playing could ruin it for all concerned. There's little worse than a damp squib. That said, I'd have to wonder at someone who didn't play because they couldn't...

    AD&D 2E Looking for a 2e adventure to run for 5e

Another vote for the Mere of Dead Men series. FR hasn't exactly been blessed with much in the way of good adventures, sadly, but I did enjoy N5 - Under Ilefarn back in the day. It's a 1e module though, so not sure if that disqualifies it for you.

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

What he said. Plus, I find it interesting that so many people assume it's just player vs. DM when these things come up. If someone came up with a character concept that was utterly at odds with what we were going for, I wouldn't be the only one rolling my eyes and saying, "Dude, that really...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

I do trust and respect my players and that's exactly why it has never been an issue, and I absolutely know it works both ways. We work together for everyone's enjoyment, and that also means that no one (DM included) has to take guff from anyone else. We discuss it all and hash it out before play...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

I'm with Mistwell. I pitch a given campaign to my players first. They then create character concepts appropriate to said campaign and we discuss how it'll all work. They don't come to the table with preconceptions as to what they are going to play before that point because it would be a colossal...

New Weapons Help - Weighted Chain, Military Flail, Repeating Crossbow, etc.

Thanks. Asian and European only for the moment, yes. If I was to stat a maquahuitl, I'd say Longsword for the most common variety. About the same length, slashing, long handle used in 1 or 2 hands, around 3 lbs., capable of serious cutting blows.

    D&D 5E (2014) Asian Monk Weapon Equivalents

Added the Flail entry to the Martial Weapons above, thanks to the chijiriki. Also folded the Hook Swords into the Scimitar section following a lot of digging (the original hook swords were sharp, apparently) and modified the name of the Monk's Spade in the Simple Weapons. Have created first...

New Weapons Help - Weighted Chain, Military Flail, Repeating Crossbow, etc.

Apart from the meteor hammer/flying weight/rope dart I posted before, I also wanted to tackle the tekagi-shuko (ninja climbing claws also used as weapons), whip chains (such as the seven-section whip), and fighting fans (specifically the tie shan and gunsen, both are which were folding and had...
